Great upgrade from older Bostitch nailer
I purchased my first Bostitch BT-200 18 ga nail gun about 25 years ago and it’s worked great trimming out 5-6 houses and many other woodworking projects. Recently the older gun started to misfire a lot on the longer nails and I decided to upgrade to this new Smart Point model and I’m very impressed. The new tip design is a big improvement as you can actually see the exact spot it will drive a nail, and the fact that you don’t have to first depress the nose piece makes it a lot easier to use with less marring on the wood. After shooting a nail, the nail hole is crisp and noticeably smaller than the older model. This gun has functioned perfectly so far over a few hundred nails, but another impressive difference is they completely re-engineered the driving mechanism in the nose of the gun and if a nail ever would jamb - now you can open the whole drive mechanism up easily with no tools to clear it, which compared to the older models is a huge improvement. The dial of depth adjustment is very nice and I’ve gotten perfectly set nails in a variety of materials at 90 psi on my compressor. Overall, I’m very impressed and happy I upgraded as sometimes you don’t realize how much they’ve improved these tools over the years.

Solid Tool; not perfect.
This is an excellent tool at a fair price. I have used this for assembly of mitered picutre frames, small wood projects, door and window trim; and kitchen cabinet install. The resultant hole is small and easily filled with the right product to match material. I have shot 1" and 2+" nails. I purchased the Bostitch 16 guage nailer at the same time to install the T&G on the ceiling in my house; it has jammed a few times but otherwise has preformed well. (The Jams are no joke...10 minuets with a few tools and your back in business but man...those nails are IN there) I have seen sparks with both the 16 and 18 guage nailers fly from the tip of the gun when discharging a nail; and I am shooting the recommended Bostitch nails.Always wear eye protection regardless. You can never be too safe with a tool like this. Its a pain in the ass but man will you regret it when you lose an eye. These nailers seem well made to me; the cases are robust and sturdy with space to store nails. The pencil sharpener I use frequently and works very well. I considered the passload cordless nailer; however for less $ I was able to purchase two bostitch nailers and all the nails I need for a year of projects and I'm happy with my choice. This is a light weight tool for its size and preformance. The adjustable depth of nail does work ok; I'd say on average there is about a 3-4mm difference in depth of drive from max in to max out. This varies greatly with the material being used; Example; I was driving 1" 18 guage nails into African Padouk for a cabinet frame and with the depth guage set to drive as deep as possible; pushing hard the nails would drive 3/4 hp husky compressor maxed out at 100 psi and the nails would go about 90-95% of the way to flush. Nail set required to finish off.

Fantastic driving power, no mar head... spend the extra $30 for sure !!!!
Fantastic driving power and a true no mar head.I bought the high end Makita from Amazon and was horribly dissapointed and sent that back. See reviews under that unit. It could not toe nail (nail at 45 degrees) worth beans on any brads longer than 3/4", and this while having to run the the gun at and just over its max pressure (not good for the life oif the gun). Plus the gun mared softwoods on almost every drive. I love my other Makita tools, but sad to see such an inferior product put out by them.I was looking to buy a new brad nailer as the Senco I have also could not toe nail the longer brads that I neeeded to drive (2 inch+). I have 3 sets of staircases and balconies to do the finish carpentry on, and will be driving 100's of toenails on the balusters. Having them only partially drive in and having to hammer / nail punch each would have been a bear, not only time and aggrevation wise, but also to have to puddy fill in and sand all those 100's of enlarged holes that the nail punch would make.I decided to spend the extra $30 and give the Bostitch a try. Man o' man... what can I say. No mars, easily toe-nails 2" brads through hard wood oak balusters and imto hardwood oak treads, with a perfect level of counter-sink of the brad, while running the gun at only abut 80% of its max pressure.I highly recommend this Bostitch brad nailer gun . It is well, well (and well again) worth the few extra few $$$ spent. You will be glad you did.Hope the review helps your purch decision. If yes, give it a thumbs up vote. Thanks - Jim
