Buy with confidence.
During the past thirty years I have used step up rings for nearly every camera rig imaginable - including 16 and 35mm film.Until now, rings have a history of bad machining and causing untold moments of panic.THIS ring is EXCELLENT ! It is well-made, has mass (not flimsy), comes nicely packaged (though I will put mine in a hard/styrene filter case), and is a well-thought out piece of gear.I will be looking for other products from this company including other step rings. If you get one of these and don't like it, I'd like to hear about it. For now I amthinking that this is start-up company committed to rising to the top and plans ongetting there by making the best gear possible. — disclaimer: No one gave me free gear to shill for this company/product.I'm writing because what I paid for exceeded my expectations: somethingthat rarely happens.

Nice Ring!
Hesitated ordering due to the price being so much higher than aluminum step-up-rings, and not sure it could be that much better. This is a very nice ring. The ring is about three times heavier than the aluminum versions, so still light, and very well made. The biggest plus, and the reason I was even considering this ring, is it doesn't stick like the aluminum rings I have used. In spite of my best efforts, I have had aluminum rings stick to the point I didn't think I would ever get the filter off. A filter wrench didn't even help. Just time and determination. It seemed to just be the risk you took when using them, regardless of brand or price. Looks like this problem has been solved with the Breakthrough Photography ring. I have tried to get this ring stuck, intentionally tightening down a B+W CPL on it, and it comes loose every time, using fingers only, with about the same force used to put it on. No longer will I be running around with filters only partially screwed on.

STUCK TO ND FILTER
This product is extremely disappointing. It got stuck to my ND filter when I was filming a wedding! I have two of these rings and they BOTH got stuck on two different sized ND filters. Luckily I could film the wedding with just those two lenses. I was extremely stressed and will NEVER purchase these step up rings again. The only way to remove them is by dousing them in WD-40 and then taking apart the ND filter (because the oil smears the glass), cleaning it, and then reassembling it. Extremely disappointed and frustrated.

It works well; packaging leaves much to be desired
Offhand this step-up ring works well. The textured, knurled grip helps a lot when trying to unscrew a filter from it. Being brass it helps from the threads seizing and the blackening should help like flare/unwanted reflections. One thing to note is that unlike my other step-up rings sourced via a different manufacturer, this comes with no case whatsoever. The packaging was a plastic zip-sleeve which included the ring and a microfibre towel. The shipping envelope was a simple bubble-wrap plastic envelope with no stiffening whatsoever. This concerns me given the fact that the ring could have been bent in transit. Thankfully, mine wasn't and it threaded easy to my lens and my filters. Given the nature of the shipping packaging and the lack of a case, this should be concerning for any photographer--I personally would hate to have the filter threads damaged on an expensive filter or the filter threads of an even more expensive lens damage due to the ring being bent or damaged in transit on an otherwise great product. The seller/shipper should consider more robust packaging: either include a stiff plastic holder (the ones Breakthrough Photography uses for it's ND filters would work), or ship it in a sturdy box, not a flimsy envelope.Don't get me wrong though...the Step-up ring itself is very well-designed; just take caution when threading one the 1st time. If it threads on smoothly you're good to go.

Surprisingly good step-up ring...
Who knew that a step-up ring could generate so many reviews? Well, there is a reason. These step-up rings do not bind up like other rings. First of all, these rings are brass, which tend not to bind up. But the saving grace on these Breakthroughs are the knurled edge, which gives you purchase when you need to twist the 77mm filter off the adapter ring. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen guys trying to remove filters off adapter rings and then give up and throw the whole thing into their bags. Then have to purchase more adapter rings for other filters. Craziness. Just buy the Breakthrough adapter rings. This adapter ring will not do that. I use the 58mm to 77mm step-up ring for a mid range zoom and filters from my long telephoto primes.

Buy This Ring
Breakthrough Photography step-up rings cost about four times the price of the common rings and they are worth every penny. After receiving two new aluminum $6 rings that were bent when I opened the box, I found the Breakthrough CNC cut brass ones, and I have only bought their rings since then. Even if the cheaper aluminum rings were not so flimsy, the threads on the Breakthrough rings are so much smoother it would still be worth the price. The knurled outer edge gives a much better grip than even the Tiffen rings, which are half the price of the Breakthrough rings and still made from aluminum. I have five or six of the Breakthrough rings in different sizes, and they are the only kind I will buy. Of all the instances I know of where you really do get what you pay for, these rings versus the other step-up rings on the market are the most black and white, easily seen difference.

It is easy to grip
If you are familiar with a breakthrough Photography's filters, then this adapter will not be a surprise to you. This adapter is essentially the same quality as the threaded brass rings on their x4 filters. It is easy to grip, thanks to the knurled edges, and filters don't get stuck. This adapter is an excellent product. So far everything I have bought from Breakthrough Photography has been phenomenal. I own their x4 6-stop ND filter, x4 10-stop filter, and their x4 circular polarizer.

Fantastic quality
Fantastic step up filter- it is really well made and feels so sturdy in the hand- nearly every other filter I have used before has been awkward to use and difficult to put on and take off but not this one- a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for and it is worth every penny in my opinion

Quality and price
I have two rings from two different company but with the same diameter . This ring is made of the highest quality materials and is in my opinion is better and cheaper than polar pro ring , but unfortunately is heavier than polar pro which may be have a negative effect on the lens zoom mechanism but the rest is in outstanding quality I love it !!!

There are cheaper but I’d buy this one every time.
Solid, well thought out and easy to use. Not cheap but a good investment. Will buy more.

High quality, long-lasting step-up rings
This is my 2nd Breakthrough Photography step-up ring. (The other is a 52mm-72mm.)I own two other, more affordable step-up rings. I've always wished they felt more substantial than flimsy in use.So I took a chance that this might be better to work with. I wasn't wrong.I noticed immediately that these were much better made rings. The brass makes it much heavier in the hand and helps it screw on better than my old rings. The knurled edge make it so much easier to hold & to use.I feel much more confident using this brass step-up ring than my old aluminium ones.A high quality, well crafted product. It'll last years.Just get it.
