I needed a cable to run my old Okidata printer on my desktop. I purchased this adapter cable and it worked perfectly and at a great price. I would recommend these to everyone.

To be clear, this review is for the Parallel to USB TU-P1284 cable. For some reason Amazon includes 3 very different products on the same product page.I bought this cable because I didn't want to mess around with other non-compatible cheap parallel to USB cables. This cable works great out of the box. No drivers or software installs are needed on either of my Windows or Mac (Lion) systems. Just plug it in and your computer views your printer as a USB device.-Windows 7 with an old Epson printer? No problem!-Mac OS (Lion) compatibility? Works great on my MacBook Pro Retina!-Works with non-printer parallel port devices? Flawlessly connects my old vinyl cutter/plotter!Here's the clincher! Does this cable work with my old vinyl cutter, running an ancient Windows XP program, inside Windows 7, running in Parallels virtualization software, on Mac OS Lion, on my brand new MacBook Pro???Yes it does!!!PS: Do not buy from "770iPhone" even if it does say "Fulfilled by Amazon". My first order came from them and guess what? They sent a cheap crappy no-name cable instead of the TrendNET one. The worst part was that it didn't even work. I sent it back to Amazon and reordered it. This time NOT from "770iPhone".Let me know if anyone found this review helpful at all.

This product does the job well which is more what I can ask for. The only thing I was hoping (which isn't really a deal breaker) was that Windows 7 does not automatically detect my printer until I install the drivers for it. Not that big of a deal, but still needed one step vice complete plug and play.

This adapter has prolonged the useful lifespan of my 20 year old Centronics port, thermal CD/DVD printer. At first it wouldn't print, but after changing the port setting from LPT to USB it works like a charm. All this on a 2012 MacBook Pro running Parallels and 32 bit Windows XP! The cable seems well-built and should serve my needs for some time to come. I'm quite happy with the value and performance of this product.

Another review here convinced me to try this to connect my iMac with Snow Leopard to an old LaserJet 4200, even though the product itself says for Windows only. I'm glad it worked for the other Mac guy, but it doesn't work for me. I can't fault the product really; I just wanted to warn other Mac users away from it.

At first, I was looking at a docking station for my new laptop with Vista but they were very expensive and the reviews were mediocre. My HP Laserjet 1100 was the only peripheral that used a 36p parallel port to a 25p serial port on the computer so the cheapest and easiest solution was to get an adapter that goes from a 36p male parallel to a USB port. The reviews I was ready about other adapters states that they did not work with Vista so I was on a quest to find an adapter that worked with Vista. The maker of this adapter stated that it would work with Vista so I bought it. Unfortunately, I didn't realize at the time that the HP serial port to the printer is a 36p but the size of the port was WAY smaller than the one on the new adapter. To solve this problem, I had to buy converter that was a 25p female serial on one side and a 36p female parallel on the other. Even after this manipulation, it still worked great. It's a good product.

TRENDNET usb to parallel 1284 converter I ordered this converter recently to link my old Brother HL-10h printer which still works wonderfully (best printer I ever had) with my MSI Wind 100 netbook which I purchased through Amazon about 3 to 4 years ago (I love it and it works well too). The converter just does not work -- nothing happens and the printer simply does not receive any message from the netbook (I use Windows XP). When it did not work right away, I installed the printer in the netbook, but there is still no communication between netbook and printer. This is the 2nd UBS to parralel I purchased and I have had to return the first and different one for the same reason. Is there no hope of ever linking MSI to Brother successfully. My MSI did connect easily to a HP printer/scanner/xerox that is about 13 years old now. If anyone can advise me before I have to return the UBS/Parallel I would be very grateful.
