Once more, into the breech...
Another enjoyable read. Michael is blessed at being able to first, have a family who is willing to put up with him, and his dragging them off to another culinary adventure. Second writing in a comfortable easily read style, that is much like having a foodie friend swing by with a six pack and tell you about a tour they got to take. I've read two of his other tomes, Starting with Sushi and Beyond (due to NHK world showing the anime here in the US.) and 'Sacre Cordon Bleu' which is his going through the full course of instruction at the Paris iconic cooking school and the working in actual Parisian kitchen brigades as a extern. This one is The Indian Subcontinent, where he learns about the culinary basis of what is truthfully the greatest influence on Modern British Cuisine. I am looking forward to this as I am fascinated by it having had the barest exposure throughout my culinary life/

funny..but instructive
Michael Booth is very honest about himself and his dealings with the world. I laughed out loud in some places and in others emphathised with his trying to rationalise the practical problems versus the moral ones when dealing with his 2 young sons in India. Compassion vs reality when dealing with multitudes of beggars for example. He also has to fight his own demons and the honesty was refreshing - this is not a namby pamby New Age 'search for self' - I enjoyed the humour; it was thought provoking and a very good read.

Mr. Booth is becoming my favourite author! The chapter describing his start as a demoralised yogi pupil is the funniest peace of literature I read in a long time.

Great book if you are nearing your 40's and wondering how you got there... and what to do now.
He has a great style and his stories are peppered with British wit and and self-deprecation. Great at painting a vivid image also. Love his books!!!!
