The Christmas Magic

This book has beautiful artwork with a much more serene portrayal of Santa and the north pole. A perfect book to read with the kids before bedtime on a long winter night.

This is a very gentle book with simple words and lovely illustrations. Santa is preparing for Christmas and knows the moment is right when he can feel the magic in the air. With all the flash and dash of the season, this would be a lovely way to calm a toddler or early elementary school child. And even as they lose their belief in Santa himself, there is something magical about Christmas time, which this book reinforces. I hope it becomes a classic.

I first found this at the library but liked it so much that I had to order it. It is a sweet book with lovely art. It will be given to her with pajamas for Christmas Eve and then kept with the Christmas books to be pulled out each December.

A new favorite Christmas book - I especially love Jon Muth's illustrations (I was hooked from the moment when Santa feels a tingling in his whiskers!). I am a fan of Muth's illustrations in general, and have some of his other books, but this one is perfect for Christmas. I love the dog-like deer by Santa's side and his bunny slippers...so much to love here, really! The beautiful simplicity of the story combined with the art makes this a book that will really get you into the spirit of Christmas.

I read this aloud to my kindergarten-through-second-grade students in library and they were entranced. The story intrigues them, of course, because most of them believe in Santa -- but the illustrations make the book truly wonderful. Jon J. Muth (full disclosure: he's one of my favorite illustrators) imbues the pages with whimsy, wit, and magic, not only enhancing the story but also offering lots of wonderful talking points throughout. I love, love, love this book and will read it to my students every Christmas.

Beautifully illustrated!

I fell in love with this book's illustrations and knew that my father, a lover of all things Santa, had to own it. It did not disappoint! We especially enjoyed the pictures of Santa in his bunny slippers and his smiling reindeer.

This book has truly wonderful illustrations. Santa is on his own, with just the reindeers around, preparing for christmas. The images are calm and peaceful - something Christmas these days is often lacking. The story is equally simple, but captivating.I have read it with my own children and with children at school and they all loved it. Even the older children (aged 8 and 9) enjoyed reading it. It gave all of them something to think about. Highly recommended!

その日、サンタクロースが北極の自分の家で準備をし出発するまでを描いた絵本です。この内容の絵本は他にもいくつかあるかと思います。（黒井健さんの「12月24日」も同じタイプの絵本ですね。）　ですが、その中でも私は一番これが大好きです。というのは、「石のスープ」「パンダのシズカくん」などで知られたジョン・ミュースの水彩画の美しさを堪能できるからです。窓から光の降り注ぐサンタの部屋。夕方近くなって、トナカイを呼び寄せる雪原の広がり。そして、いよいよ出発の時、見上げる夜空。真面目な絵だけでなくちょっと滑稽なサンタの表情もあります。　クリスマスの絵本をいろいろ、表紙が見えるように並べて飾っているのですが、その中でも特に雰囲気に深みがあって目立っています。　個人的な好みもあるかと思いますが、クリスマスの美しい絵本を探している方にどうぞ。
