KORAD KA3005D-3S - Precision Variable Adjustable 30V, 5A Triple DC Power Supply Digital Regulated Lab Grade

There's a review of the single-channel version of this power supply on Youtube where the reviewer runs the supply through all sorts of crazy stressful tests, such as using it as an arc welder (!). This thing is pretty robust. Ability to switch into parallel or serial modes with a pushbutton is really nice. The extra 5 volt output on top of the two main outputs is handy for hybrid analog/digital circuits, you can run positive and negative rails for audio and 5V for your digital.Some notes:Because the serial mode button is a long press of the over-current protect button, and OCP switches on the down-push of the button, if you want serial mode without OCP you need to turn OCP *on*, then long-press the button to turn it off and engage serial mode.The logic can be a little weird when driving non-resistive loads. I put it into 30 volts serial (60 volts between the outermost terminals) and hooked it up to a 22 millifarad power supply capacitor, turned it on, and it wouldn't charge the cap. I think the capacitor looked like a dead short, so it lowered the voltage to limit current, but then it stopped looking like a short and confused it or something. I charged the cap by setting the voltage low at first then gradually ramping it up till I got the full 60 volts out of it. When I lowered the supply voltage it didn't react too quickly, it was probably limiting the discharge of the capacitor through the power supply, so that's pretty good.I wired up 16 3-volt LEDs serially and put the power supply into 24 volts serial (48 volts total) with current limiting to the rating of the LEDs, no load resistor. The display didn't know what to make of it, the two sides of the power supply disagreed about how many volts they were pushing, but it drove the load fine.I set current limiting to 20mA and tried hooking up an led while the supply was hot. It fried the LED, so current limiting won't help you if you arc while hooking up your electrodes.

I'm a math teacher with a math degree and no formal EE training, but practicing electronics and design has become a hobby of mine. Most of what I know is from ocw/mit, eevblog (Dave, you're awesome!), and getting my hands dirty on breadboards. I've played guitar for over 20 years which quickly steered my interests in electronics to guitar effects circuits. Needless to say, I do a lot of playing around with op amps, so a dual supply was a must.When I was looking for a power supply, I didn't want top of the line because it wasn't in the budget and quite frankly, I just didn't need it, but I didn't want to see my money go to waste on a piece of junk either, which can easily happen when you're looking to buy cheap. EEVBlog (Dave) had turned me onto the Rigol DS1052 scope which I have been very happy with, so in deciding which power supply to buy, I turned to the same source. I watched a full teardown of the single supply unit and despite a fail on an early version, I was satisfied with what I saw.I have been very happy with the Korad. It's amazing what they can put together for 150 bucks. If you're a hobbyist or looking for a decent home lab supply the Korad is the way to go. If I was using this thing to make a living I'd be looking at the 800 dollar supplies, but for what I need, this supply is perfect. I like that I can see the current draw on each of the channel's displays.SRA soldering was very fast in shipping the unit. That's all I can really say about them, but what else can you ask for?The only Con:The user manual sucks! Seriously, you're better off trying to figure it out on your own than reading the manual. China needs to start outsourcing to the US or someplace that can do a better job of writing.

It's is a great high quality bench powersuplly on a budget. Fan relatively quiet regardless what some other reviews say. I wish if there would be a option so the 3rd output "DC5V" could be turned off but no it's always on.This is the "S" version, no usb so now programming possible despite some of the images on sallers ebay listing show a USB port, this is not the one !

NICE POWER SUPPLY. EASY TO SET UP. HAS 4 MEMORIES PER SIDE FOR COMMON TEST SETUPS. SAVES TIME. ONLYMINUS IS THE COOLING FAN IS A LITTLE NOISY, BUT OVER ALL WORKS WELL

This is a superb lab bench power supply.The service is great and the shipment was very fast.First, I have received a supply where the SER and PAR modes where brokenand got it replaced with a functioning one very quickly.As a note, when the channels are in independent one can adjust the parameterswhile the soft power is on, seeing the effects immediately.When in SER or PAR mode, one needs to set the voltage or current andthen switch the soft power button on to see the effect.The two pairs of power leads that come with this supply are rated 5Aso one will need to buy another leads if using it in the PAR mode at 10A.Thank you SRA.
