Jonny Lambert's Animal 123 (Jonny Lambert Illustrated)

This is my child's favorite book.
I have read this book way too many times. Whenever we go to the library, this is the first book my daughter runs to (started at 16mths, but currently 22mths old). With that said, we had to get it for her for Christmas. She opened it on Christmas Eve along with glow sticks, (which were quickly tossed aside), and had us all reading it for the next week. xDCounting + animals + interactive flaps? Definitely a win in our books.(:

I just love these illustrations, makes counting fun
I like that this book has some pages that fold out to reveal more animals, and the illustrations as always with this author/illustrator are amazing! I personally love the pictures and so does my two year old. It makes counting fun for us both.

Gorgeous and sturdy - a favorite!
Elegant, simple design. Sturdy construction. Love that this book includes not just the numbers and pictures but counting prompts, too. The companion book (Alphabet) is adorable, too!

Colorful, engaging book that encourages lots of interaction
I love this book! My little one is still a bit young for this, but I am excited about sharing it with her eventually. This book has sturdy cardboard pages with panels that fold out in various directions. The animals and plants are bright and colorful, but their features are very realistic. Each page has a numeral, its name spelled out in letters and a short sentence about the picture. Preschoolers can count not only the animals as instructed, but also plants and other objects pictured. Each page offers great opportunities to discuss what colors the objects contain, what each animal is doing, etc.Although the cardboard pages are glossy to prevent smudges, it may be advisable for adults to turn the pages. That way junior won't tear a panel off in his/her enthusiasm or frustration. It's helpful to count the number of animals' heads on each page, since the creatures are layered in some instances. You can also note how many legs (2 or 4) each one has and compare other features. On one page, youngsters are even encouraged to do simple math.Be prepared for older, more precocious children to debate the number of animals shown--particularly how many bees and sunflowers there are for the number nine, due to the flip out panels. With the review pages in the back, you can let them match the numerals and words to the correct pictures showing that quantity of critters. If you are looking for an interactive counting book for older preschoolers, this is a great choice. It's Dorling Kindersley (DK), so you know it's made to last. And the price is right at $12.99 retail.

An Absolute Favorite in our House!
Jonny Lambert's Animal 123 my preschooler adores and asks for it to read almost every single day and multiple times in the day she chooses it.The books starts at 1 and goes through to 10. This book features reveal type flap pages that either open from the side, top and on each side for very large page spread. The flap pages are strong and durable and won't easily become worn out or rip.The animal, insect, rodent, and bird illustrations are very well done. There are bees, flamingo, lizards, and more. The illustration colors are cheerful, imagery memorable and the images on a white background make them really pop out at you.The book is interactive aside from opening the flaps but also by asking questions like "What's Flying Between the Reeds?". When the child lifts the flap they will discover the answer! Not every page has a question but I like it was included to get those little wheels turning in a child's head. This board book is one of the best counting to ten books I have come across in my 11 years of motherhood and that's saying a lot!
