The artist does it again.
I cannot get enough of these mangas. I can’t understand how this isn’t more popular. Every chapter is perfectly crafted and I always feel so satisfied in the end. The relationships are getting better and better. Ahhh. Can’t say enough good things about Natsume’s Book of Friends.

Beautiful!
Natsume's Book of Friends Volume 8 contains chapters 27 to 31, special episode 8 and extra notes. It is rated T for Teen due to fantasy violence.Natsume is a teenager who can see spirits or yokai as the japanese call them. His grandmother who could also see yokai passed down a strange book to him. Natsume found out that it contained the names of all the yokai his grandmother had fought and won against. He now has the power to control these yokai but having this book makes him a target. Luckily he has Nyanko Sensei! Nyanko Sensei is a yokai who acts as a bodyguard for Natsume in hopes that when Natsume dies, he will get the book. But Natsume wants to return the yokai names to their original owners. It tells you the story so far at the start of the book but if you are new to Natsume's Book of Friends, you may want to read the previous volumes first as this volume has some returning characters in it.In volume 8, Natsume participates in his school's cultural festival, chapters 28 and 29 are about Tanuma being possessed by a yokai and the final 2 chapters show how Natsume first met the Fujiwaras. The special episode is titled "Chobi Passes Time". And as the title suggests, it's all about Chobi, a yokai with a small mustache that we met in a previous volume. We really see a lot about Natsume's bonds in this volume. He grows closer to his friends, especially Tanuma. The yokai possessing Tanuma gives him the ability to see yokai for a few minutes so he understands more about what Natsume has to go through everyday. My favourite part was the flashback to Natsume's previous house. After being discriminated by every human he's met, it must have been nice for Natsume to finally meet the Fujiwaras who were willing to take him in. You can see his emotions from the art that he was so happy to finally have a home.Speaking of the art. It was beautiful as always. The pages that really got my attention are from when Natsume said "Please take me with you..." and then he burst into tears. That really got me. Yuki Midorikawa is an amazing artist to be able to channel that emotion through to the reader. There are also a couple of pages with really simple art. The lines are really thin and there are very little screen tones added, but that gives it a really calm feeling. Beautiful is the only word I can think of to describe the art.Overall, a lovely manga. It always manages to put a smile on my face and make me feel at peace. I'm really looking forward to buying the next volume.

Natsume 8
The character development of Takashi Natsume continues with this volume exploring his relationships with his human friends especially Tanuma and Taki. It has been a while since Natsume has given any Yokai their name back from the Book of Friends. The book still serves to attract Yokai to Natsume but the emphasis is more on his relationships with the Yokai and with humans. Love the series!

Natsume is a must read
Natsume's Book of Friends is a fantastic series and is one that should be read by anyone who wants to read a seriously good series! The art is beautiful and compliments the story and concept very well. Natsume is one of the best Manga characters I have ever read about and you feel very attached to him throughout the series. The story is full of heartwarming and heartbreaking elements and you really feel for all of the characters involved, which is often rare in Manga but Yuki Midorikawa has perfected this and it works continuously. Natsume is one of my favourite Manga's, in fact pieces of Literature that I have ever read.
