I bought these for my friend Andrew Ree, that's just his american name since we likely can't pronounce his real name, and his family. I wanted to remind him of the flavors of home and bring back memories of his rich ethnic heritage. These were a huge hit along with all the other items Amazon was able to deliver to his home and job, seemingly effortlessly. Andrew is a big fan of durian and he recalled that it brought back memories of him as a young child in the southeast asian jungles climbing seemingly massive trees to gain access to their bountiful albeit rotten-smelling fruit. He once encountered a very angry momma panda who was protecting her cub about 23 meters up in a tree while hunting durian and that's how Andrew got the crazy scar on his face. He likes to tell people "it happened in 'Nam" but we all know he isn't even from vietnam since his eyes don't look like theirs, silly chinaman, lol. Andrew now resides in america and is a world renowned beekeeper and will be soon producing his own hard candy line featuring his award winning honey along with the other flavors of his childhood including general tso chicken, duck sauce, fish sauce and wasabi.

The top 4-star review of this candy is 100% accurate in describing the flavor. Heavy on the dumpster juice.BUTIf you search amazon for Miracle Berry Fruit Tablets you can find them for like 10-12 bucks, and they completely change these durian fruit candies from a joke to inflict on your friends into a "weird" but delicious treat. Like a combination sweet onion / coconut candy. I made it 20 seconds with an unmodified durian candy before I had to give up and spit it out; with the miracle berry tablet I ate an entire candy and enjoyed it.4 stars on its own, 5 stars with some help from a berry. :)

Oh my God this candy is freaking hideous and I mean hideous you want to vomit eat this crap I got something to put it in our church for our children I'm a minister the kids got sick off this candy I tried it I am very sorry for our parents that had their children get sick off this product can I purchased for my church this candy is disgusting do not waste your money they will not give me a refund for my $12 I know it's only $12 but it is so sad when something so disgusting and put oh it's gross as candy is sickness disgusting and hideous it will make you sick do not buy this it is gross it's a waste of $12 keep your money by American

I have never had actual durian fruit before, but I love trying new foods. I used this candy as a sort of test. I now understand why many people are disgusted by it, and also why many people adore it. It really is both at the same time. The taste is unlike anything else and it's impossible to make a comparison. Personally, I really enjoy this candy. It's addictive.I also gave it to a Chinese friend who grew up in the Philippines to see what she thought of it. She's eaten the actual fruit, so I asked her how the candy compares to the fruit. She says the candy is sweeter and she could taste the coconut milk. The candy also doesn't smell nearly as strong as the real fruit. You could enjoy the candy on an airplane, without the Captain making an emergency landing to drag you off the plane. The same can't be said for the fruit which is banned in most public places.I have went on to try another durian product on Amazon.... the banh with salted egg yolk which is also very good - if you like the taste of durian. My plan is to get accustomed to the flavor and aroma of durian through other products before trying the fresh fruit at its most stinkiest. If you love durian, you will like this product. If you are unsure, this is a cheap way to find out. That being said, durian is definitely NOT for everyone. It's something that you will either love or hate, there is nothing in between.

I bought a bag of these to add to this year’s Halloween candy as a “trick” for the trick-or-treaters. It cost me around $20 after all the various fees and the quantity isn’t very large.The taste is as I expected. It’s durian. For me, that equates to a taste similar to a creamy hard toffee that’s been mixed with raw onions or garlic. Oddly enough, I think it starts tasting better the longer I suck on it. It’s perfect for pranks! just wish it hadn’t been so expensive.

This item is pretty hard to review, as I do not enjoy Durian. The initial reaction is to give it 1 star and warn how terrible it tastes. Instead, I am giving this 5 stars for the following reasons:The product was packaged very well. As someone who does not like Durian, I was concerned it was going to stink up the whole house. The packaging was very thick and durable, and I did not smell anything on the outside.The flavor is very similar to what I remember the taste of Durian being. We bought the package to see who in the family would enjoy the flavor vs those who would have the same reaction I would have. It worked well for our experiment, and was a much better idea than buying the fruit, which would have the smell throughout the house.One of my kids enjoyed the candy. She was the only one who did not spit it out nearly immediately, including myself. We took a few of the pieces to share with extended family later, and she got the rest of the bag.Bottom line is, if you do not like Durian, do not buy this product. If you do, or you are not sure, give it a try. The kiddo that does like the candy asked if she could get more after finishing this bag. Given that the candy does not give off that much smell and the packaging is great when it first comes sealed (no reclosing, fair warning), we would be happy to buy it again for her, which is why I think it deserves 5 stars.
