Quality stone
Quality sharpening/honing stone. Nicely packaged, easy to store with rubberized stone protectors. I'm ordered a 1000/4000 grit and love it.

A decent enough stone for a beginner, and worth the money
Disclaimer: I am an absolute beginner when it comes to whetstone sharpening, and this was my first foray into the craft. I am in no way qualified to give a reliable objective review. This is just my impression from using it a few times so far.As far as I can tell, this is a decent whetstone to get started and learn the basics of sharpening. I noticed as I was sharpening that a lot of the stone as well as the metal was coming away with the water. Whether this is just the way whetstones are as compared to oil stones, or this is a particularly fragile stone, I don't know. But it seems like you need to be fairly careful to wear the stone away evenly, or you'll be doing a lot of flattening. This isn't very important to me, since I only plan to use it now and then and will probably upgrade when needed.Overall, it's decent. It's hard to mess up a square hunk of stone. The grippy holder works great and I'm definitely stealing it to use on my oil stone when this one is through. Thumbs up.

Excellent sharpening stone
If you're new to whetstones, the first thing you should know is that this is not a quick and easy way to sharpen a knife. It will take you at least 20 minutes to get a good edge, and it takes a bit of learning to get the technique right. Fortunately, there are lots of good web resources (i.e., YouTubes) showing how it should be done. One really good one is called "How to Sharpen a Knife on a Wet [sic] Stone - How to Get an Extremely Sharp Knife."It's a good thing that there are web resources on this, since my stone came without instructions. (You will find the manufacturer's instructions posted on the Amazon listing, however.) I assume this was an oversight that the manufacturer will soon correct. The keys to a good sharpening job are: soaking the stone in water for a long enough period to get it really saturated, keeping the surface wet while you're working, keeping the angle of the blade shallow (about 10 degrees), and using the right amount of pressure (more when you're pulling the blade toward you, less while pushing it away from you. There are 2 sides to this stone: coarse (1000 grit) and fine (4000 grit). Some stones come with even finer grits (8000 or even 10000), but the 4000 seemed fine enough for me to get a really sharp edge. The surface of the coarse side seems to wear away pretty easily (although I doubt that will have a serious impact on longevity), but not so the fine side. You'll need to use the coarse side first if your blade is really dull, but you can probably get away with just the fine side if you're merely touching up a fairly sharp blade. This one comes with a silicone rubber base that helps to prevent the stone from sliding in use. It appears to be solid and well made, and looks to be a very good value. (Just compare its cost versus other stones that Amazon lists.) If you're willing to put in the effort, this stone will reward you with a really sharp edge. (Non-serrated blades only, of course.) Highly recommended.Full disclosure: I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Knives seem to glide instead of cut!
I really liked this whetstone! I had a Smith's pocket sharpener that could get my knife sharp enough for working around in the yard (I have an Opinel no.8). However, in doing a little research I found that the sharpener was only around 600 grit on the finest setting. So this BearMoo 1000/4000 grit looked like the perfect step up, and it turned out to be the perfect stone for me. The pictures are an accurate representation of what you get. The removable rubber base was helpful when switching from one side to the next, and it kept the stone from sliding around. The instructions say that the stone can work with either water or oil, but that water is preferred. It said to leave the stone soaking in water for five minutes, and the stone worked like a champ. I especially liked how the instructions gave you an approximate time of how long the stone takes to sharpen a knife -- it just helped give me an idea that it would take about 15-20 minutes on the 1000 grit side, and then another 10-15 minutes on the 4000 grit. Just turn on a TV show! One thing about this stone is that it is very "thirsty." I had a cup of water close by just to add a little water periodically when it felt like it was scraping a little too aggressively. Also, be sure to do as the instructions say and use different parts of the sharpening surface. I wasn't paying attention the first few minutes, and apparently I would end each sharpening pass in the exact same spot, creating a very very small notch on the edge of the stone. So I turned the stone around and made sure to vary the ending spot, and it seemed to buff out that little notch very quickly. My knife is now incredibly sharp--it seems to glide through material rather than "cut" it. I know some people would continue to go even higher with the grit, but for my purposes this whetstone is just perfect. I'll be tackling the kitchen knives next!

Easy to use, durable, quality stone
I waited a while before writing this review in order to get some use out of the product first.I am not a "professional" knife sharpener. (Is that even a thing?) I just sharpen the kitchen knives (well, and pocket knives, too) at home...and, most recently, I've started taking knife sharpening equipment with me when we go to rental cabins, because their knives are DULL.The stones (actually, I have several, two-sided, of various grits) are very easy to use, and hold up well. By "hold up well", I mean that some stones, after a lot of use, wear away and become uneven/scooped out in the center. So far, I haven't experienced that with mine. They put a very keen edge on the knives. In fact, if you put a little effort in, they can become scalpel sharp. One thing these stones have taught me is that I need better kitchen knives. :-)

Stone works well, but its very soft.
Stone works very well, but its very soft. After about 3 sharpening sessions, it is already concave. If you were to use a flattening stone, this whetstone would last a few months tops. The 1000 grit feels more like 600 grit, and the 4000 feels more like 1000. It has good value, but you should really spend a bit more and get something from King.

My first good sharpener!
I like this two sided sharpening stone! I had to buy a magnetic knife holder for my own protection as they're too sharp to keep in the drawer now. My knives are paper cutting sharp, and it makes cooking so much easier/fancy. Even my cheapest knives are paper cutting sharp now! The only downside or upside depending on how you look at it, is it takes a fair amount of water/time to get the cutting edges just right. It took me about an hour to sharpen 4 knives, (first time), but it's kind of a soothing, meditative process that gets you more in tune with your kitchen tools. If you love cooking, invest in one of these!

Mediocre but can do the job.
After having this a few months and practicing my sharpening skills I've come to the conclusion this is a mediocre stone. The 1000 grit doesn't cut very fast, even on knives that only need a touch up, and is very soft - takes a long time to grind, produces a lot of mud and hollows out (which caused the biggest issue to getting a good edge, especially on a wider bevel such as Scandinavian grind). I find this stone needs flattening often, so it probably is not going to last very long. It also leaves pretty rough scratch lines. The 4000 grit side is much harder but is not very smooth and certainly doesn't leave a polished edge like one would expect from a 4000 grit stone. But if you keep at it with this 2 in 1 stone you can get a sharp knife, can cut hairs but probably not whittle them. At the rate the 1000 grit wears out though it's probably cheaper to go with sandpaper, or just invest in a higher quality whetstone.

Great starter set
No it's not THE BEST stone ever, and yes it will likely wear away sooner, but really if you're just getting into sharpening or have only the occasional thing to sharpen then you're rocking with this. I am impressed by the inclusion of the truing stone. If sharpening chisels, plane irons, or other woodworking tools you will benefit from a honing guide in order to ensure accurate angles, and you will need to get a strop for final polishing, but I have used this stone on all my tools as well as a LeatherMan, several knives, and even a spokeshave blade. All have been excellent.

Excellent Customer Service! Great Product
This product is fantastic. It was a Christmas present to my father, who was looking for a good knife sharpener for our kitchen knives. When you start using it, you need to soak it for about 5 mins. You'll see little bubbles form. Once soaked, the block is ready to use. When using the block, you'll notice grey/black reside on it. That's the debris from the knife as it's being sharpened. You need this dry this product over night in order for it to fully dry before storing it away. This combination is the perfect grit size to sharpen knives that are dull, but not damaged. The 4000 grit is excellent for that final polish. It does say to sharpen the knife for 15 minutes. I think that's a bit of an overkill and 5 minutes is more than sufficient. Overall, great product and excellent customer service, who helped replace a block that broke during shipping. Highly recommend!
