My favorite "bundled" rods of this type are Pro Mark's Hot ...
My favorite "bundled" rods of this type are Pro Mark's Hot Rods. I like the feel and natural sound of the wood dowels. However they wear out prematurely, even with applying duct tape around the shoulder for added durability. It gets expensive replacing them. Next I tried Remo's Blastics. Not bad for plastic rods but a little short for my taste. Finally I settled on Vater's wood handle Whip. Their longer rods are a plus for me. Adjusting rings are beefier than the "O rings" Remo uses. The Vaters outlast the others in general. However, the rods have an annoying tendency to all work loose in a bundle from the metal collar of the handle. Vater's binding process is not sufficient to keep the entire bundle from separating from the handle. In the past I believe it took awhile for this to occur. Then I started to preemptively glue the base of the rods to the metal collar. Now it seems the rods work loose much more quickly. Gluing sometimes keeps the rods from popping out en masse but notalways. To be fair, I use the Vater Whip for home practice to keep volume down. I do play them fairly hard, but still, they should not be coming apart while still new. That's the only reason I took off a star. If you're playing with only light to moderate force, you probably won't have this issue. Other than that, the Vater Whip is still my first overall choice. Now I simply glue when new and strengthen overall with duct tape.**Update: Borrowing from my practice of duct taping the wooden dowel Pro Mark Hot Rods to minimize wear around the shoulder of the rod, I did the same with the V. Whips. I eventually wound up taping from the bottom of the bristles up to about an inch or two from the tips. However doing so made the whips heavier. I was ok with that but curiously noticed that in short order, the whips developed a bending of the duct tape in the middle. Attempting to straighten proved futile as the whips quickly became bent again. It then occurred to me that it might be the weight of the tape with the repetitive downward and forward force from playing that was causing or at least contributing to the poly bristles coming out of the handle individually or en masse. So I tried a new pair of V. Whips, still preemptively gluing the bristles at the wood base, experimenting with the adjustment bands, but NOT applying any duct tape. Voila! After a month of my usual hard playing, the bristles have all remained intact. It would appear the weight of the duct tape may have been the significant factor in the bristles coming out of the wood handles. Time will tell.

Drumstick rod, whip brushes
I really enjoyed the whips that from Vader, but I love your cool rods by pro Mark Moore

Takes a little bit getting used to but good for playing light on drums
The media could not be loaded. These are very light nylon sticks. I had to wrap mine with shrink hose and medical tape. I like to have stiffness in the stick. Gives a responsive bounce I like. These are great for light drum playing, but I enjoy belting more power out with these Whips. Use the pair for a week and your mind and hands will adjust. I enjoy the slap on the snare and rack toms. Gracias

Almost great sticks
The sticks work well and are far more durable than wood ones, however the rubber bands that slide up and down the sticks fall off or slide around while playing. Need to add something else to it to keep them from moving around.

Perfect Except...
I love these sticks. I love them more than hot rods. The sound is awesome but are very quiet with the sleeve at the bottom. Almost as quiet as my brushes but with a crisper sound than the brushes. However, The stupid sleeve just flies off as soon as you play with any gusto. It drives me nuts to the tune of 1 star deduction. Other than that, these babies are my favorite quieter stick.

Fun and Quiet
I really like using the tips for rehearsal and for specific sounds I need on a gig. The bounce is limited so it forces good wrist control. I use them often and I like how they sound.

Good but not great for rebound oriented playing
If you're looking for rods that will help with double and triplet troke rolls you would have to work real hard to get them don't with this. The tone is very different to that of the hickory rods. I will find use for them but I prefer the wooden rods.

My favourite
These are my favourite alternative to drumsticks. The length is good better than the plastic handle WHWP which are too short. The wooden handle and weight mean it is similar to a drumstick. They are durable my last pair lasted 6 months of playing 2 hours a days before the rods started to fall out. The weight means you get a good workout during practise compared too Pro mark hot rods which are very light. Hot rods break too quickly. I avoid rimshots because of the metal barrel holding the brushes. Hot rods have better rebound but the durability weight and wooden handles are more important to me. Fllix sticks are a better option of you want the option of rimshot

Too short
I bought these because I couldn't get hold of the version with the wooden handle which I really love. But these are quite a bit shorter. As an alternative drumstick my order of preference would be the wooden handle Vater Brush Whip because of their length weight and durability, failing that a pair of Flix Sticks as they are longer than this whip

Not bad but a bit pricey
Great sound. More robust than wooden hotrods but the rubber band they allows your to slacken or tighten the rods flew off within minutes so I've used duct tape. Would still buy again

Rubber not tight enough
Nice product, it's a shame I had to replace the rubber holder as it kept flying off. Quality control issue?

A great mid-point between sticks and wire brushes
Have struggled to find that happy mid point between sticks and wire brushes. These provide it for me. Not has hard hitting as hot-rod type sticks (and more resilient) but harder than the nylon brushes I'd tried. Very pleased and would recommend.
