Reliable quality in every way. 8 years and counting.
I'm in the radio business and still need CDs to audition for programming all the time. I Bought this in 2017 and use it several times a week for years. Perfect in every way. Always works. Great sound.

Great Function and Sound
I purchased this Onkyo 6-disc player (DXC390) in April of 2009, and have had no problems or complaints in the 26 months since. The 6-disc changer's playback quality is nothing short of amazing. Although I purchased a souped-up netbook to use as an .mp3 library for my home theater, and have my entire library burned at 320kbs, there is obviously no comparing the compressed quality of .mp3s to the crystal clear definition achieved with this CD player. This is regardless of using Onkyo's "Music Optimizer" or Soundblaster's "Crystallizer" enhancements for restoring .mp3 losses; neither brings the music back. I do not work as a sound-engineer, in a Hollywood studio, nor a symphony hall; but I can say without a doubt that my untrained ear is very pleased by the step-up from a high bitrate .mp3 (with or without optimization) to the real thing on CD. I rarely use the netbook, in spite of its conveniences. I have never had a problem with the front-loading tray; never have had a disc "jump" out of its disc-well; have used it for many nights of 8+ hours of constant random playback (often switching in new discs during playback;) and have played over 300 different discs without problems of playback/player identification issues. I do not keep burned discs in my collection, so I cannot vouch for all varieties of copied music being compatible. My disc changer is paired with an Onkyo TX-SR806 A/V Receiver via an optical connection, and I have had exactly zero problems with either. I keep both in a somewhat open environment (1.5" to the L, 6" above, 12" behind, and 18" to the R of the stack) with an Antec component fan on top of the receiver to maximize air flow throughout. No troubles with overheating, and therefore, no loss of performance (permanent or otherwise.) The price is ridiculously fair. Would I purchase it again? Yes, without a doubt. I intend to buy a couple more units such that I have replacements if Onkyo ever stops producing these fine machines; I have 50+ years of life left, and I intend to jam to the bittersweet end. **UPDATE**: Today (Aug 19, 2011) I received my two new DXC390 units! They look identical to the original from the review above. Manufacture date of each is from 2011, meaning these are still being produced and not just old stock. Both of the new units are functioning without a hitch so far, and pumping out KISS Icons with graceful detail. It is fitting that these arrived today, as it is the 28-month anniversary date of receiving the first. The original unit is still rocking along, no problems! Now, if I can just get my fiancee to allow me to purchase three more of these over the first couple years of our marriage... :) By the way, I purchased a "Digital Audio" 3-way rotary digital optical selector switch for connection of all three disc-changers to the same A/V optical input. I am waiting for some new optical cables to come in the mail to connect them all up, at which time I will review the 3-way optical selector at the following link: Cables to Go 28734 Digital Audio Explorer Toslink Selector Switch

Great repalacement for my Sony Changer
Needed replacement for my Sony cd changer. Surprised at how expensive they have become. Never heard of Onkyo but based on reviews and price I bought the DXC390. So far I’m glad I did. Setup was easy and the sound is great. The only concern was the unit, if plugged into a wall outlet, can’t be completely shut-off unless un-plugged. I plugged mine into the Sony receiver and when that’s off so is the changer.

Onkyo DX-C390 is 2 thumbs down JUNK!
Well I wrote one review and it wasn't good enough to publish or maybe a to good but however here we go again! If you're looking for a good cd player that's gonna last this is not the one for yoi!! The Onkyo DX-C390 I purchased started off pretty good, I connected it in optical mode and it sounded decent however when I give it the volume it had issues with SKIP CLIP SKIP CLIP SKIP CLIP and as you probably know that's not good for your speakers or your ears!! Ok now for the timeline with warranty! It has a 1 year warranty however if you read the warranty content it tells you straight up that if it's not purchased from a CERTIFIED SELLER THERE IS NO WARRANTY so read your content and purchase accordingly. There's a extended warranty of 3 years for this DX-C390 unit, well if it lasts the first year you're good, if it preforms for you as it did for me you will get barely over the warranty period and it'll go haywire!! For me and many others if you read the reviews it will start malfunctioning. My situation it started playing and right at 47 seconds it would stop and the display would show track 99. I reset it with no luck, I have left it unplugged for up to 5 days then it actually played almost one whole song and stopped again showing track 99!! Grrrr right!!! I finally said forget it and ordered another brand, a great brand that was even used and right out of the gate it had a much better optical sound than the Onkyo DX-C390 and no skipping with volume like the Onkyo DX-C390!! This Onkyo DX-C390 was such a hunk of junk that it give me the mindset that I will never buy another Onkyo product as long as I live because when a person spends $300 on a Onkyo DX-C390 unit you would expect it to last 10+ years at least I expected this but the Onkyo DX-C390 fell WAY short of my expectations therefore ruining my liking of any Onkyo product!!! Good Luck with your decision of whatever product you purchase but if you value your hard earned $$ DON'T BUY ONKYO ESPECIALLY THE ONKYO DX-C390!!! You have been warned!!!

GOOD ALL AROUND CD PLAYER
Our old player fizzed out, we purchased this one. First one was totally defective, but Prime immediately took it back and replaced it within two days. Second one works great clear sound, easy to connect to our amplifier. Love the fact that we can put 6 CDs in and just walk away and let it play. Remote also is a nice feature. Would give it five stars but a little pricy on the cost side, and control buttons really small print, hard to read, but work well when you hit the right button.

6 disk player a great addition to our system
This 6 disk changer works great, and has good sound quality. The ability to load 6 cd's to play thru is a great feature.

Great Purchase!
I was hesitant to purchase this item online. Typically, I would go to a store that specializes in sound systems - however, I decided to take a chance and review the information about the items online and purchase the one I thought was best. I am very happy with this decision! The system is perfect and was delivered quickly and with care.

Everything I could ask for in a replacement cd unit and more.
This ONKYO unit replaces a 5disc MASH Technics unit that was around 25 years old. The wires hooked up exactly like the old unit, which made the switch out as easy as could be wished for. So far thoroughly pleased. The sound is excellent and added one disc to the previously used unit. A little pricey but if you get the results anticipated, all is good. Fit perfectly in The space already allowed for.
