Hard to find a lacxquer based sanding sealer in California
This stuff fills and seals better than anything else. It's easy to find water based sanding sealers in California. But danged hard to find a lacquer based sealer on the store shelves in California. Amazon came through.

Lacquer Sanding Sealer
I have used this product for nearly 20 years, I had used other formulas until Home Depot stopped carrying LSS. Lowe's carried this Deft product, so I bought it there. Now, you cannot get this product in either market. Possible due to the volatile nature of lacquer, it cannot be shipped by the regular consumer services: UPS, FedEx, USPS... That is, it cannot be shipped in one gallon containers. I was able to defeat this restriction by purchasing 4 one-quart cans at a time. It costs a little more; but this is the product I need and I am thankful it is still available.

some tricks
So, there are some tricks with sanding sealer that i think would be helpful1. raising the grain isn't really necessary2. don't need to sand between coats, since each coat chemically bonds to the next (property of lacquer) sanding isn't needed3. spray like 4 coats to start out with, like 5-10 minutes between coats (not tacky to the touch, dries really quick) don't worry about nibs or rough spots4. when your doing your first sanding after a few coats, wait like a couple hours to fully harden5. when you sand, if you have open grained wood and don't want that, just leave the sanding dust on the part. no joke, let it go into the pores and not wipe it off6. when you spray your next coats, they will melt the sanded material and bond everything together (at first it won't look like its fully dissolving but in a couple minutes it will be clear). because of this, grain filler isn't always needed unless you do it for aesthetics reasons. you can get a glass finish this way.7. this isn't a top coat, its way to soft. when you sand pre cat lacquer and see the difference to the sanding sealer you'll see why, pre cat is way harder.8. i keep a metal spray bottle in my hvlp that i only use for lacquer stuff. it easier to clean and not get colors mixed into it on accident.

Fantastic every time
I have been using Deft Clear Finish for many years, refinishing dining tables, sewing machine cabinets, a dentist cabinet, and the list goes on. However this was my first time to finish brand new custom made kitchen and bathroom cabinets. I had never even heard of the Sanding Sealer so I did my research. Many other brands were highly recommended; however I wanted to stick with Deft. Upon visiting several small local hardware stores and a few national brand paint stores who sold Deft products, I was told that they did not carry the version for brush application. They explained that commercial contractors found that it dries too fast so they only carry the spray on version. Along with the fact that I could find reviews of the Deft Sanding Sealer only on Amazon and absolutely no blogs on the web for its use, I ordered my first can with trepidation. Wow! This is an amazing product. I lightly sanded and stained my poplar cabinets before applying the Sanding Seal. And, Yes, it does dry quickly but I find that to be a plus. It was SO easy to apply, going on quickly and smoothly. And I could proceed with the application of lacquer within a few hours. I used only about 1-1/2 quarts total for a total of 12 feet of upper and lower cabinets (floor to ceiling) installed in our mother-in-laws addition. I highly recommend this product to anyone for an absolutely glass-like smooth finish. My new cabinets look every bit a great as those done professionally in the rest of my house. Absolutely beautiful. I will stick with Deft and wish some local retail stores would sell the Sanding sealer.

Does a pretty credible job for a sanding sealer
Does a pretty credible job for a sanding sealer. Will save on number of later quotes if you go pretty heavy with the first two.
