This book is just an amazing opportunity for everyone who wants to learn more about filmmaking, the clear and sweet language of the book helps even those who English is their second language. I believe everyone with film passion should read this book as it will certainly adds a lot to your knowledge about who visually tell your story. the photo examples are very helpful and I just can't thanks enough the author. Can't wait to read more from Morgan Sandler.

I bought this book as a stills photographer because I wanted to better learn how to tell stories visually. I was astounded with how well technical things were explained, far better than in the stills photography books I have read. It also delivered on the promise of understanding how to tell stories visually. Which I believe is also the goal of a stills photographer. As a stills photographer, I highly recommend you read this book because it will up your game even if you never film a movie.

Enjoying reading this one, material wise I didn’t notice anything bad as to what the previous reviews are saying, the quality of the paper does seem a bit different but what matters the most is the content, but I have to say, I’ve read the first few pages and I’m already amazed and gained a lot of knowledge you can’t easily find online, I recommend purchasing this if you’re starting out videography & cinematography!

この本は、映画の演出の入門書です。文字で書かれた脚本や音声によるセリフではなく、ビジュアルによって「語らず示す」方法を追究したい人のための本です。英文がとても平易なので、高校時代に英語をきちんと履修した人なら楽に読める本だと思います。 ただ、この本の内容はそれほど高度ではないと思います。この本一冊を読んだだけでは、映画を見る眼はさほど肥えないのではないかと。 第1章では、ビジュアル・ストーリーテリングの要素が語られます。この本は脚本よりも演出重視で、照明や撮影の解説に重点が置かれています。監督・撮影監督・プロダクションデザイナーの仕事が大まかに述べられていました。 第2章では、物語の構成要素が語られます。主人公や敵対者の役割や、物語の三つの構成要素など。この本は脚本家ではなく演出家を養成するためのテキストですが、脚本は重要なのでこの章が割かれているのです。 第3章は、画面構成や構図について。長方形の画面を9分割する方法、登場人物の視線や様々なカメラアングルなど。 第4章は、カメラの設定について。露出・F値・被写界深度・シャッター速度など、カメラのトリセツに書いてあるような内容でした。 第5章は、カメラのレンズについて。広角と望遠、ズームと単焦点など。 第6章は、照明について。ライトを当てる位置や光量、光の色やロケ地の時間設定など。 第7章は、観客の視点について。露出や焦点を利用し、観客の注目を集める方法が提示されていました。 第8章は、カメラの動きについて。プッシュインやプルアウト、PANやTILTなど、様々なカメラの動かし方が説明されていました。 第9章では様々なショットやイマジナリーラインなどが一気に説明されていて、私としてはこの章が一番面白かったかもしれない。 第10章には、映画業界を志す人々への激励が書いてありました。
