QuickTest Professional Unplugged: 2nd Edition

This is the best book on the subject, by far.First, it is a very thorough reference on QTP. Yet it is not a bigger and better manual: the book does not focus on how to use QTP. It focuses on how to do test automation with QTP - and these are two very different things, the second being much more useful. The book is written from the standpoint of the test automation engineer rather than that of a company the sells QTP, stresses the automation practice and digs down into solutions.Second, it is well-organized, and there is no problem to find whatever you need to help you in your day-to-day automation activities. Instead of digging through Q&A on various forums, you have a very good chance of finding what you are looking for in minutes in Tarun's book.Third, the book is up to date - a precious quality in our changing world.The only problem I found is a lack of adequate coverage of mobile test automation - yet very few know how to do it indeed (well, I do :) )The book is a must for anybody who is serious about test automation.

The author takes a very conventional approach to QTP in this book. A good deal of what I think of as basics are covered in it. It is skewed towards a systemic approach to using QTP and it doesn't address the issues of optimizing for performance in an actual production environment where you have potentially thousands of regression tests and 10's to 100's of machines running QTP. I feel that many of the practices laid out in the book are not desirable in a real world production environment, which is why I gave it 3 stars. I happen to like the way the book is written and I find it extremely accessible. Obviously mileage will vary on that for each person. If it addressed fundamental architectural issues surrounding optimizing for performance I'd have given it 4 stars.

This is the Best book on QTP in the market.I like the way each and every topic spanning the whole tool and its mechanisms accurately explained with examples.Any one who purchases this book can master the tool.The problems at the end of the book if practiced and solved will raise the knowledge levels of an Automation Tester to a lead .For me this book is like bible and i refer this book to any person from Novice to Expert...Thanks to TarunLalwani for bringing QTP knowledge to everyone for an affordable price.

Many books are written in poor English, or hard to follow, this one stands out as the best ref on QTP. I have learned many things that simplified my testing from this book, and learned some tips and pitfalls that kept me out of trouble. If I lost it I'd buy another copy just to have. It doesn't replace the QTP help, as it refers back to the help function for more basic tasks. But I've bought several books on QTP and this is a keeper.

Very good content and organization, except a) I frequently needed to stop and read the atrocious English aloud to colleagues and b) this so-called updated 2nd edition is really a chapter at the end with a list QTP V 11's changes, so whatever you read in the earlier chapters has to be checked for currency by flipping to the back and consulting that chapter.

The book is good for QTP professionals and also better for QTP beginners.It covers more topics and I am yet to go through this book completely then I will be able to comment on it.

A very useful book to have at your desk when working with QTP (now UFT). Lots of helpful information with examples that are easy to follow.

Book is outdated. Although the Cover displays QTP 11.0 all the screenshots are of the Older Versions.Go for QTP Descriptive Programming Unplugged.

Good but costly :)

Sorry, I just returned it. It is a nice book though, very good contain, but it's not what I want.
