An excellent read that covers a lot of ground

An excellent read that covers a lot of ground, most specifically the behind the scenes of modern day exploration of the Giza plateau and the somewhat dubious activities of the special interest groups involved. After reviewing Robert Bauval's volume of work and the discoveries he has contributed one should come to the conclusion that he will be if he is not already regarded as one of the most important researchers of Egyptian history of this or any other era.

Great read but sometimes too much details

Really good book. You will learn a lot of things concerning the heritage of Ancient Egypt that we can find in the Hermetic belief and you will learn about the Pyramids and the reason behind them. The author as a very good style, you don't feel like an archaeological book but almost like a mystery book. He is also really precise, giving dates and names of people who attended a particular meeting 20 years ago. That's maybe the issue of this book. You expect to read something concerning the hidden chamber and the author speak about it, but only for 1/2 of the book. The other half concerns the author "beef" (fight) with Zahi Awass the former head of the Egyptian Antiquity Organisation and the different trips he made to the USA to attend some organisation meetings. I understand the needs to be precise but there should be a need to be concise as well. Do we really need to have all the details concerning the misunderstanding involving the German engineer who sent his robot through the Pyramid ventilation shaft and Mr Bauval? Do we need to read all the faxes they sent each others? Since the beginning of 2015 I have already read 3 of Mr Bauval books and all of them are really well written, we learn a lot about ancient Egypt and the way they worshiped stars but sometime he add too many details that are not directly linked to the book. So I gave 4 stars to this one because it was really instructive and quite good although there was stuff that didn't need to be there.

If you are a fan and like his impeccable life's work

Mr. Bauval has, very impressively, outdone himself once again. If you are a fan and like his impeccable life's work, you will absolutely LOVE this one. It has all the twists and turns of a first-rate detective novel combined with Robert's usual razor sharp and straight forward Egyptology, historical accuracy, world-class investigating and archaeology all wrapped up and served with staggering, and jolting revelations of the corruption, cronyism and deceit of the Egyptian governmental establishment in control of exploration and investigations at Giza. Loved it! Thank you Robert Bauval for your dedication to the truth and to the sciences.

there seems to be alot of back and forth drama ...

there seems to be alot of back and forth drama with games running amok with each party trying to wheel and deal their way to the supposed secret chambers to discover what???? i was hoping for a more scientific approach if not a more mature one in putting together the proper resources to research collectively the accuracy of the secret chambers under the sphinx's paw. i think that if any one of the present group involved should be lucky enough to hit pay dirt that they would have a loud marching band proclaiming their glorious and historic find...too many egos at play here and not one truly interested in the historic or spiritual repercussions such a find would mean to humanity.

Would be a good book on its own merits

Would be a good book on its own merits, however it gets into the usual Bauval slamming Hawass banter. It kinda took away from the interesting other aspects. Otherwise, a well written and interesting book.

very informative. however, the ending was too blunt.

I usually love the books written by Robert Bauval and this book was no exception. He clearly does not admire Dr. Hawass and neither do I. The only complaint I have is that the ending was so blunt. Will he continue to expose how crooked the Egyptian government is concerning its past history? Maybe one day the truth about the construction of the pyramids and the Sphinx will be revealed. I think there are people who know the truth but think it will embarrass the Egyptians so it is covered up.

It also contains good references to other Authors of the same ilk

The quest for the Chamber keeps you rooted to the book. It also contains good references to other Authors of the same ilk.If the Secret Chamber is ever discovered I'm sure it would not be written about.

Boring

Nothing in this book I didn't already know from reading the Zechariah Sitchen series. I'm surprised Bauval never mentioned him.Covering his butt?
