The Best on the Market for a Beginner
Glenn Pendlay's DVD is hands-down the best I've seen regarding teaching the Olympic lifts to beginners.Olympic weightlifting is potentially a very complex undertaking, and it is easy to get bogged down in the minutia of it all (I know, it happened to me when I started!!). But, Pendlay has that ability only seen in the best teachers to distill down the whole complex beast into the essence that is the most important for the rank beginner, without "dumbing" anything down. Walking that line is not easy, but he makes it look easy.Don't be fooled, though, if you aren't a rank beginner, there's a good chance you'll learn something new here. Getting "back to basics", and in a way that you hadn't done previously, is a great way to ensure consistent progress as a lifter. The beauty of Olympic weightlifting is that you are never done learning or progressing, and you are, fundamentally, a life-long beginner. Embrace that, and you'll be more likely to succeed. The DVD is basically the video footage of a seminar Pendlay did with a rather large group of people of various ages, abilities, etc. Most everyone looked to be a beginner, or close to it. In addition to his "lecturing" and explaining what he wants people to do, you get to see him walk around and deal with people one-on-one, which is (in some ways) even more helpful since the flaws he's correcting are numerous, and you are bound to have at least one of them.Jon North is his usual self, as the demonstrator, a real crowd pleaser.I'm trying to think of anything I didn't like so that this review doesn't sound too glowing to be real, but honestly, for the price of less than half of what it would cost you to have a one-on-one session with a coach, you get to have a DVD forever with one of America's greatest weightlifting coaches. To me, that's a no brainer!
