Atlas of Forensic Histopathology
H**M
One of the few, and by far the best
This is one of the few forensic histopathology atlases out there and is extremely helpful especially to a trainee in the field of forensic pathology. The color pictures are good quality, and I've used the injury dating tables numerous times already. Truly invaluable tool that I feel every budding medical examiner should have.

Excellent
High yield stuff. Great photo micrographs with plenty of arrows indicating the findings. Short and sweet comments. Great tables on dating injuries.

Good photos
The text did not give complete descriptions to help explain the photo's. It assumed the reader was a Pathologist which I am not.

An amazing atlas!
This atlas is absolutely amazing. As a trainee in forensic medicine, forensic pathology or autopsy pathology it can be very difficult to find information about postmortem changes, injuries or sudden death from a microscopic perspective. Most textbooks either have focus on the macroscopic changes or on surgical specimens that are in a well preserved state. Those few textbooks that actually adress postmortem microscopy usually have miniature images that often lack meaningful comments, making it difficult to relate to what you see in the microscope. This atlas is different. It is as close to looking in the microscope as an atlas can get. It features an incredible amount of big illustrative images with short -yet very informative- comments. These comments actually describe and point out what it is that you're supposed to look at. Furthermore, many of the images are shown at various levels of magnification, thus enhancing the learning potential. This is especially apparrent in the neuropathological images, which alone would justify buying the atlas. It also features "suggested reading" sections that lead the way to more detailed articles that can serve as an entry point for further study. This atlas combined with one of the big textbooks of forensic pathology should be on the bookshelf of any student, trainee or professional in forensic medicine.

Very good, but somewhat sparse
This book contains many excellent photomicrographs and the text which accompanies the images is generally well written. This book provides a number of useful facts which I have not found in other textbooks. One example being the discussion of ante-mortem renal tubular injury vs. post mortem epithelial detachment from the tubular basement membrane. However, I wish this book were more comprehensive. There is plenty of room for the chapters to be expanded. The discussion on clots and thrombi is very helpful but incomplete. Also, I was hoping to see a more detailed discussion on chemical injury to the esophagus. I am left with the question, are there different histopathologic patterns of injury depending on the chemical which is ingested? And if so, what are those different patterns?Overall this is an excellent book which does well to supplement the study of any larger textbook on forensic pathology. But a new and expanded edition would be welcomed.
