This is a great book
This is a great book. It is one of the best sports nutrition books I have ever read. It is technical but easy to understand and really a great resource. I would highly recommend this book.

Worst textbook ever.
Purchased this book for ACTION Nutrition certification. Excessively wordy and impossible to read. The author is trying way too hard to sound intelligent. The worst text book I’ve ever used and I have degrees in avionics, industrial management and architecture.

I have read many books on the subject, like the Paleo Diet for Athletes, Sport Nutrition (also by Asker), Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes (by Ryan), Racing Weight: How to Get Lean for Peak Performance, The Feed Zone Cookbook, to name a few of the most recent ones. I must say that I was very late to read this one, which I bought a few years ago, circa 2010 (when it was launched)... Wow, what a nice surprise! I also must confess that I was misled by the subtitle, which made me believe that it would be some sort of a "recipes" or " theory applied to practice" type of book (didn't like the "Kitchen" referral there, which I believe may have discouraged a lot of buyers/readers). Instead it is a very scientific based book, with all subjects backed up by research, and that sheds light on many misconceptions about sports nutrition. It covers many important topics like carbs, protein, suplements, diets, etc. What surprised me the most is that it talks about some nutrition protocols linked to different types of training programs and sports, which were quite new to me and seem to be still modern and not known by many. All in all if you favor a more technical type of writing with a strong bias for "research based" results, it's certainly worth a read. Last but not least, I was introduced to Prof. Asker's work by listening to a podcast on Competitor Radio, which you may find here, if Amazon allows me to refer to it: [...]

This book does not bring anything new but it is good for the shelf! Concise and the organization is good! The cover could be better!
