Fast-paced medical thriller
A surprisingly good read, considering the fact that this is one of the author's earliest books. If you're a fan of Michael Crichton, you'll undoubtedly like this book. His medical background helps keep things realistic in this fast-paced thriller. The story follows Dr. John Berry, a pathologist, as he turns detective to try and prove the innocence of his friend, Dr. Arthur Lee, accused of a botched abortion. Unsurprisingly, the reader is subjected to medical terms and procedures, but helpful footnotes ensure that you don't need to refer Wikipedia for clarity. The story maintains a brisk pace in a detective novel fashion and rarely let's your interest drop.

Great build up to climax, poor ending.
Great build up to climax, poor ending. Felt like the ending was a bit rushed. Till that point, I was hooked on to the story.

Good read. Well written.
Though initially a little bit slow takes pace afterwards. Suspense extended well till end. Falls short in character building. The reason why the hero so vigorously pursues the matter should have been more explored.

Crichton at his best
One of Crichton’s lesser known books, but a good one, nonetheless. I did not know how good this book was until I read it.

Intriguing
An interesting novel by a commissure in a field that he is a master in. The ups and downs in medics and cops keeps you hooked on.

Gripping medical thriller with not very satisfactory ending. I ...
Gripping medical thriller with not very satisfactory ending. I wonder how much this book will appeal to those having little or no interest in the medical field. Plus with all the advances in medical science a bit dated. Crichton's other books are better

If you liked House of God you will like this one
Crichton has written many good books, and this is an infrequently discussed hidden gen among them. It is a well done period novel (60’s) that reads like Raymond Chandler’s noir detective Philip Marlowe meets the classic medical novel House of God.

Great Read
Enjoy the medical detail, very current modalities, good character profile for a star character. Enjoy the pathologist profile but do they actually perform these intricate treatments in an ER dept.
