Q: I noticed when the switch is off, you can still key the mic. By leaving the batteries in and the cover closed, will this drain battery life?

I have this bullhorn. It is fantastic and loud; I do not know what yvonne is talking about, but maybe she failed to turn up the dial for the voice. When my bullhorn is not in use I open the battery compartment and place a slip of paper between the battery contacts and the lid. This keeps my batteries lasting longer. Which batter you use has a lot to do with the performance. I only use the Duracell Procell brand because I have tried others and they do not provide enough power or last long enough.

Q: How many miles can people hear. I saw some that give a mile for people tomhear you.

not that far. I use it in parks for large groups, up to 250 people in a crowd, and they have trouble hearing me with it. I'm not impressed with it at all.

Q: Which one of these is the loudest? I need to beard in the next state.

Not sure if you will heard in the next state, but it has good volume. My husband uses this to start cross country and track meets.
