Q: The pictures show two different setups. First shows just the main bolt you turn. The second shows the bolt pushing a post. Is the post needed?

I’m not sure which post you are referring to but it is a flywheel puller tool so the post i think you’re referring to is the crankshaft that the flywheel is stuck on hence the need for this tool. As you turn the handle it pushes against the crankshaft and pulls the flywheel off the crankshaft.
