Apollo 13: Music From The Motion Picture

The fact is, the musical score for Apollo 13 is one of the best ever composed. This makes it all the more frustrating that whoever mastered this release chose to add in a bunch of the dialogue from the movie on top of the soundtrack. So much of the music is, frankly, covered up with sound effects and dialogue from the film. Strangely, they even do so for tracks that were not in the same scene as said dialogue. An example being Tom Hanks' opening of the TV broadcast being sampled over the end of the launch sequence music cue. Really!? Why!?!? What the f@$%, MCA/Universal???Another issue with the mastering of this release is carrying over the tail end of one musical cue onto the next track. Again...why?? That's not how a soundtrack is supposed to be structured. Each song gets its own track. Don't bleed one track into the subsequent track!!!Of course I bought it...I mean no cinema soundtrack collection should be without this score. But the way this disc is structured really makes you think what the mastering engineers were thinking (or smoking).We are LONG overdue for a remastered release that will hopefully be done by a competent outfit.

I think music can make or break a movie.The musical score for Apollo 13 definitely made this movie, it hit all the right emotional moments of the story and visiuals.Unfortunately, this sound track has the movie dialogues through all the music.Sometimes people just want to hear the background music without talking. If I wanted to hear dialogue, I'd watch the movie.I will be returning this cd.

This item was not new. It was opened and used because it has a scratch and a fingerprint on it. I have connected amazon and will not be buying from this seller again.

Great movie, what else is there to say? A great portrayal of when the US was at it's best when it came to solving problems. People coming together and not letting failure be an option. They didn't look for the easy or easiest way out, they worked hard and never gave up to find the RIGHT solution.

The soundtrack part of this album is typical excellent James Horner. I'd give this a 5-star if it didn't have 8 tracks of period music on it. Although in the movie you kind of want to forget that bad late 60's early 70's music. This album just screams of a need of a score only album. I like the intertwining spoken dialog and instrumental music.

Pathetic in every regards....I've NEVER heard a CD that's so lame. It has more voice recordings from the actual movie than music itself. There's relatively little music from the movie other than the number of songs played on the astronauts Sony Walkman cassette player.

I was hoping for more of the score and less of the songs with words. But it's still a good CD.

The soundtrack from Apollo 13 artfully combines the stirring tunes made for the film by composers James Horner, with fun period R&R songs such as "Spirit in the Sky", which were also part of the soundtrack.Great music!

Honestly, I bought this album for one piece of music, track 23, which plays right at the end of the film.This is great album, a mix of soundtrack pieces from the film, such as the titles, the launch sequence and the far side of the moon, along with various songs from the period (The Who, Jimmy Hendrix etc).It's a shame that James Horner is no longer with us, having died a while ago. Apollo 13 is certainly one of his very best pieces, perhaps even his finest.I heartily recommend this album, Track 23 alone is worth it for how cheaply this can be bought now. Fantastic and stirring.

The CD was for my own use, and lived up to the description. Brought back the memories of the movie (Tom Hanks) and even distant memories as I lived through the mission watching on TV as it happened in 1969.
