Our son is an avid builder/lego/puzzle person. He finished this in about 2 and 1/2 hours. It was a challenge but he enjoyed it highly, despite some frustrations at times. The blocks are harder to get together as they require a good bit of finger pressure to snap together, so I can see the more advanced recommended age range. They are hard to separate once they are together, but that would be neccessary due to the moving parts. It does run and change gears with the shifter. He is already wondering how he will replace the batteries when they are exhausted. It appears that this will be an issue because, there again, some blocks will need to be separated to reach the compartment. We would recommend this building kit for older kids and adults. It is educational and fun to assemble. Be prepared to get a little frustrated at times, though, simply due to the sheer number of blocks, the technicalities of the engine, and the pressure required to press them together. An older person with strong hands may not find it challenging, but a young person, yes.

Bought this for a 15 year old who is taking auto mech im school, he loved it!
