This book has the information I needed. I have been buying men's shoe lasts because I couldn't find any women's that worked for me. The problem is that none of the shoe lasts seem to be standardized when it comes to sizes. I wear a Men's 9EEEE in one shoe last. In another I wear a 9-1/2 or 10EEE!So, I got my foot measurement, added the proper amount to the length and measured the bottom of my recent shoe last purchase and found out that I actually have the perfect length! I'll still have to add some width to the last, but the length is exactly what I needed.The book not only shoes you photos of the different shoe styles but also shows you the shapes of the different arts so that you can get a good idea the difficulty of sewing each style.There's a ton of other really nice information in the book and being a tall woman with long fingers, the section on gloves is really going to help me!The only drawback is that the fractions are in Decimal form so you have to convert those.

I like Donnanno's take on pattern drafting so I have bought all of his books so far. This one contains shoe making and button making which are out of my reach but I can see myself sewing soft shoes like ballet flats to wear at home. It has a lot of good information for drafting bags, fabric hats, gloves, neckties, umbrellas (fabric part) and dog clothes. I really like it.

Pro's*I think that the instructions in this book were clear.*Measurements are given in CM and inches which I liked.*I really like the fact that illustrations are given showing the specific item down the age's. You can see clearly the difference in shoes, hats and gloves from era to era.*The dog clothes are sooo cute and modern but more information on drafting and sewing should have been given.Con's*You get illustrations of amazing products but the directions are for some of the more basic items. Especially the hats. I really wished more extreme hat patternmaking had been delved into.*Sewing directions are minimal. You will basically have to sew from previous knowledge gained.*Leather is used commonly that can be hard on standard sewing machines that are not industrial. I didn't take a point off for this though as it's just the nature of producing the item.*As far as shoe making, I think a decent amount of information was given but I doubt this can be truly completed from this book alone without previous knowledge.*The production steps are geared more towards companies than for individual makers.*I found it ironic how the author discusses how to tie (tie knots) but not how to sew ties.* You won't be able to make buttons from this book. I think that section was useless. To me, there was no need to include it. As it doesn't go over how to make buttons or button shapes. The belt section included. You won't be able to make belts from this book.*The umbrella section needs more step by step directions and the walking stick section could have been left out as per the buttons as-you will not be able to create a decent walking stick from this book.Closing Thoughts:Overall a good resource to have but I would definitely check out from the library before purchasing. It spans so many items, I don't think it give each on the attention it needs for successful completion. The instructions given were clear but not enough instructions were given for some of the items. Instructions for sewing is not there, for the novice, to these items.*Is this a must have..No. But I don't regret the purchase and don't think this is a purchase many will regret in general.*I'm not sure why the photos are downloading upside-down, but some are.

Just arrived today... I checked the content and read some of the instructions....It’s disappointing. They weren’t explained and realised well. For me it’s a no go... I mean yes there are some okay instructions but mostly it wasn’t impressive.It’s not what I expected. At first I was excited to have this book since I want to make bags and other accessories but.... there’s just something wrong with this manual. It wasn’t good for me. Actually it was a waste of money. I’d rather go to YouTube and look for some tutorials. The illustrations were good but as I’ve said over and over again it wasn’t clear. So to those who wanted to buy this? I suggest that you don’t hahaha but if you stillInsist on buying it go for it but don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

Livre arrivé dans un mauvais état, le poids du livre (près de 1Kg) rend le cout de retour prohibitif.

Some parts are confusing, but all in all it's a great book. Books with this contents are rarely found. Especially how to make a pattern of a dog's jacket or gloves, ties... Bible book for all designers.

Estuve esperando y cazando por mucho tiempo la publicación y venta de este libro en Amazon, cuando finalmente lo adquiri me llevé una gran decepción, a comparación de otros libros de patrones del mismo autor donde el 90% del libro son patrones listos para transformar y confeccionar a la brevedad, este libro parece un libro de historia e informativo sobre los orígenes y los procesos de elaboración de cada tipo prenda que menciona en la portada, trae muy pocos patrones de cada cosa, del que más esperaba patrones era del de calzado pero solo trae el patrón para zapato tipo blusher, los patrones de bolsas están muy chafas y anticuados, el de gorros está más o menos y los demás muy x, sin tanto chiste, así que mejor ahórrense su dinero
