Viola is Lovely, and an update!
The Viola itself is lovely and perfect for a young beginner or intermediate player. My 12 year old son transitioned from violin to viola a little over a year ago and could best be classed as an intermediate level player. The viola is a good fit fit for his size (about 5'2) and the instrument's voice is nice. Good resonance and clarity, timbre is middling but sufficiently rich. The bow that originally came with the instrument was faulty, but when I asked the seller about it directly, they said they’d send a replacement!I'd recommend ordering a spare set of strings. The strings that came with the viola sounded fine but were not as stable or warm, pitch-wise, as my son wanted. I want to be clear that there was nothing functionally wrong with them at all, he just prefers a slightly different sound. We restrung the instrument right away with his preferred Thomastik-Infeld Dominants, which have a really great, warm pitch. Re-stringing the instrument was easy and I reckon anyone with access to a simple you-tube tutorial and strings could do it easily.Overall, we would definitely recommend this viola, great instrument for beginner to intermediate players.

Good value for the money
I had an expensive 16" viola that was just to big for me to use; it was like having a cello under my chin! I am much happier with this 15" viola, plays a lot like my violin. Didn't cost much, but I'm no professional player and I don't need much. Best for new viola students or students who are switching to viola.

Disappointed.
I returned the viola because it was damaged. I also was not impressed with its quality.

Absolutely great viola for beginners and some intermediate
I've owned my DZ Strad Model 101 for a couple of years now. It's a great sounding, well projecting viola for the money. One thing I would recommend is getting it new strings. DO NOT BUY DOMINANTS! The viola has a slightly thicker, heavier wood, and the sound gets distorted when trying to project. I would recommend Evah Pirazzi strings or take it to a luthier and ask him what to give it.
