Madame de Villeneuve's Original Beauty and the Beast - Illustrated by Edward Corbould and Brothers Dalziel

Book is great and it is not a large book. My one disappointment is the print inside is small. If you have a hard time reading regular magazine print you will definitely need some cheaters to get through it. Even the photo I posted with this review does not give a sense of how small it is, but all in all it is worth the cost.

I am a great Disney's Beauty and the Beast fan of the movies. Disney took a lot of the story and made it "sanitized" so as to not frighten the kiddies. Glad to read the original story!

There is nothing like the original in fairy tales! Hopefully, they never stop being read! It would be a sad thing if readers thought that the Disney versions were more than the weak retellings that they actually are, and never knew anything about the real stories. The moral lessons taught us by original fairy tales are lessons that we all can benefit from.

Wonderful descriptive writing, and the pacing of the first half of the bool is very nice. However, the last third of the book the exposition gets pretty dull, and I found myself skimming more than immersed in the text. I am not really a fan of this writing style, but the story is intricate and definitely deserves a read. Maybe even a second reading. Also having chapter breaks to provide stopping points in the monotony of the last half would be extremely beneficial to the reading experience.

This is not the story that Disney told. Its is an amazing story with intrigue and fairies. I highly recommend the original telling of this classic tale.

Could I get this in French as well?

Surprises abound if you read the whole story…not included in Cocteau or Disney versions. I had fun reading the whole text.
