The Best of Joe Pass: A Step-by-Step Breakdown of the Styles and Techniques of the Jazz Guitar Virtuoso (Book/Online Audio) (Guitar Signature Licks)

Solid job by Wolf!
Got the book a few weeks ago. I was inspired by seeing that kid playing the song "Django" on YouTube. He got the transcription from Wolf's book. The CD is good enough to enjoy by itself. There is no "Band in a box" backing here. Just real musicians playing really well. Marshall hammers all the solos with total accuracy. The tone is there as well as the flow.Keep in mind that this is not for beginners. However, if you are a rock, blues player and really want to break away from the box system and sixteenth notes scalar runs, that's a good book to buy. Joe's playing is all over the neck + he uses a wide variety of techniques from finger picking to sweep picking.Jazz is a lot of work (and fun!) so if you are to spend hours and hours learning, learn from one of the best. Get this book.If you want to learn great stuff but in a less intimidating way, give a shot to Tom Dempsey "Classic Jazz Guitar Styles" (great backing tracks) or Fred Sokolow "The Roots of Jazz Guitar", these too guys will start you on Charlie Christian all the way up. Their solos are great but they are more fit for low intermediates and up.

Very good
I have a few wolf marshall (the author) books and he always delivers really good accurate transcriptions .I guess over time I will own more and more of his books . This is someone who you can learn alot from .I also have a wes montgomery book by wolf marshall and it is pin point accurate as well . Its obvious the author / editor pays alot of attention to detail its clear as far as I know there are no errors . As far as content goes if you want a introduction to Joe pass I think this is perfect there are some brief notes about each song talking about the mode its in the period during the artists career etc. The recordings that accompany it are of very high quality . Absolutley recommend it !

A Fantastic Resource For Exploring the Genius of Joe Pass
Wolf Marshall's transcription books are always first rate, but with this volume, he has truly outdone himself. The selections presented are a great mix of Joe's early work on Pacific and the later Pablo sessions including a great solo version of "Basie's Blues". But for someone like myself learning the language of bebop guitar, the material from "For Django" and "Joy Spring" is a virtual textbook. Please do not be put off by the terribly inacurate comments made in one of the other reviews here. Wolf does in fact play jazz guitar exceptionally well, not surprising considering that he has studied with George Van Epps, Pat Martino, as well as Joe Pass to name just a few.

Great Insight to an Insightful Maestro
Joe Pass needs little introduction, any web search will bring up a plethora of history on this great guitarist. Solo, his work is unparalleled, trapeze artistry without the net. I'm really glad Wolf Marshall has worked up this insightful study into the styling of Joe Pass, it's a wonderful way to get into the music a bit deeper, to accomplish and perfect you own chops, to grow in your guitar vocabulary.I'm playing Bass mostly, but ANY insight to any instrument only adds to the ear, which translates to the hand. Thank you Joe Pass for your music, and kudos to Wolf Marshall for opening up the music for us.

Great book for you Pass lovers
This book is good for the intermediate to advanced guitarist. It maps out all the licks and chords that Joe Pass used. Not an easy book but if you spend time with it and work a bit each day you will reap the rewards and your patience will be rewarded.

The Best of Joe Pass
C.E.D., 2. The night has a thousand eyes, 3. There is no greater love, 4. Django, 5. Rosetta, 6. For Django, 7. Cavalerie, 8. Nobody else but you, 9. Blues for basie, 10. One for my baby (and one more for the road), 11. I don‘t stand the ghost of a chance. Fazit: Kein Rip-off, sondern Joe Pass auf hohem Niveau. Die Transkription ist im höchsten Maß penibel. Ein Buch vom Profi eben.
