Listen..I bought this book because the man is a music legend..I'm finding it insightful and a step closer to the man himself..To those people needing a book to get a personal connection..He has already done that with the great music he gives us!!Show some respect!!I saw him live last December and driving up to Leeds tomorrow!!I'm buzzing at the thought 🎼🎼😇

As a massive Ashcroft fan, this was a must for me. Whilst concerned that it wasn't an offical biography I still had to purchase it.Was I disapointed? Probably not, however, anything with Ashcroft/Verve associated to it i am a bit biased.The fact is it isn't official and the contents of this book are mainly the opion of the author, which quite often differed from my opinion of songs. He would state for instance that Music is Power or Break the Night with Colour are weak! Obviuosly music is open to ones own opion and at times I felt a little dictated to (and annoyed because some of the songs I love), but at other times I was nodding in agreement. In addition, the author has interviewed quite a lot of people who were close to Ashcroft and the Vere and some of the insight, especially of the earlier days are very interesting.All in all, if your a fan! Buy it!

This book is not really a biography. I was hoping for some insight into an interesting, complex character with some good stories; instead this book is a combination of a small amount of extracts from other peoples interviews and the authors opinions on his songs (listed, almost, through every album). Its clear he has no more clue about Ashcrofts journey than anyone else who has read Q, NME or Melody Maker over the past decade. If you want a nobody's opinion of Ashcrofts music, I'll give you mine for half the price (and it would be just as credible and probably much more interesting).
