The Matrix is an excellent movie. Since the DVD the audio track present in this Movie is always superb and many movies followed the trend of having powerful audio for more immersion in movies. It's a very innovative movie and interesting for the viewer to discover the truth with Neo. The Matrix reveals that our life is nothing else than an illusion and a lie. We have destroyed ourselves. Machines have taken over and use us as power sources. It's an exciting film with an interesting and scaring idea. The film's fighting scenes in slow motion have left a mark on cinema and especially Lawrance Fishbourne's performance is memorable. When I heard that they are re-releasing The Matrix trilogy in 4K UHD with a new Dolby Atmos track I was immensely disappointed to learn that the Atmos soundtrack will be limited only to the 4K set. But that's the case with the rest of the world because thanks to Excel Home Videos, we are getting a separate Blu-ray release here in India, with a new video remaster and the same awesome reference quality Atmos audio. Must must buy. Also I would like to specially thank Excel Group for gifting me a superb James Bond Coffee Table Book with this order. Couldn't be more happy with the team. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers!! Picture Quality - 5/5 So I had heard that not only the 4K Blu-ray but also the standard HD Blu-ray is getting a new picture remaster and the results are pure reference grade. The movie mostly consists of Blues and Greens and both these colors are very finely represented, not overdone like the previous editions. The video is sharp and contrast excellent. Skin tones are natural though I felt that the dynamics could do with some improvement. It's definitely a fine upgrade and makes this purchase even more compelling. Audio Quality - 5/5 The Matrix has always been the go-to demo disc for showing off your home theater system right since the days of its DVD release. And the new Atmos track takes it to a different level altogether. The level of immersion is outstanding throughout the movie. The lobby shootout sequence, the chopper scene, Trinity's intro in the beginning, the training scenes, the trademark bullet dodging sequence, all make for instant demo material. The rewind button on your remote is going to suffer once you start playing this disc. The rain drops fall on you, the helicopter flying above you and make sure you dodge that bullet otherwise it might hit you. Kudos to the sound engineers at Warner for giving us such aural pleasure through a movie that deserves all the fine detailing it has received in this edition. No matter if you own this movie on DVD, Blu-ray or the complete trilogy, if you are a fan, this edition is a no-brainer. Or better yet, the 4K one if you have the setup.

The Matrix is a film classic, and it will continue to appreciate as we ascend into the technological advancements of today's world. It's incredibly odd watching this movie 20 years later now, and seeing how some of the assumptions about the internet, technology, and society were addressed here. All of that withheld, it's still a great piece of sci-fi action that has rarely been met with a competitor or similar style. A lot of the stylistic elements of The Matrix have been attempted in other films, but never used quite as successfully as it was here. Things such as "bullet time" have been overused since the release of this film, but exemplify the impact it had on movies and viewers. The Wachowskis are particularly interesting to watch in Special Features, especially now that they are both women. They don't seem to have any highly technical background or understanding of film, but are making the movie they want to see and being particular where they as a viewer think it would count. I think this movie was the beginning of Keanu's highly popular career arc from the late 90s to the mid-2000s. Where he seemingly died off and has now been resurrected again by John Wick. Laurence Fishbourne is great as Morpheus and plays the master to Neo perfectly. Carrie Anne-Moss, where is she?! She's outstanding in this film, but probably no one is better than Hugo Weaving, who with little to say or do than glance makes such an impact on the film, and ultimately the story of this universe. This all looks fantastic in 4K! This release is jam-packed with special features and FOUR audio commentaries, which I was incredibly excited to listen to. I can't say it shed any light on concepts or ideas that I haven't heard of before, but it's so interesting to hear intellectuals, philosophers, and psychologists talk about both what they like about the film and its depictions, as well as what they don't like. One of the commentaries is from film review writers that hated the film, and despite their critiques find a way to frame the film's importance in cinema. It's quite interesting, and it's prefaced by a letter from the Wachowskis on pitching this commentary to WB, which is hilarious. Imagine another movie that would have a review from people who didn't like it, just to give the viewer another perspective from which to absorb this wild ride. At this point, I believe there's a trilogy release on 4K as well as a steelbook at other retailers. I'd recommend getting the whole package as it's likely cheaper, and I bought this when the other 2 weren't released yet and had to buy the last 2 movies separately. This movie is still phenomenal, and holds up just as well today if not better. It's incredible to see how this film has matured and become social commentary that's just as relevant now as it ever was. The Wachowskis have gone on to do some great films and some not so great, but hoping that the new M4TRIX (see what I did there) does to post-2020, what this film did for the early 2000s.

I consider this movie to be one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, right up there with the first two 'Alien' movies and various anime like 'Cyber City: Oedo', 'Ghost in the Shell' (which played a role in inspiring this movie), and 'Akira'. Being the hardcore anime fan that I am, I found 'The Matrix's' style very appealing and fun to watch. Everyone fit their roles perfectly in this movie; despite the fact that I'm not a fan of any of them (except Hugo Weaving), Keanu Reeves was much more likeable and believable than Will Smith would have ever been (he was originally considered to play the role of Neo, but he himself turned it down because 'he wasn't a serious enough actor'. I like Will Smith, but I totally agree with him). And let's not forget Hugo Weaving's brilliant performance as Agent Smith. Like this movie, I consider Hugo Weaving to be one of the greatest things to have ever come into existence. He has maintained his status of being the highlight in the entire Matrix franchise, alongside the action sequences that are nothing short of amazing. Now, many people complain about the middle of this movie up until the point where Neo sees a deja-vu cat to be super-boring, but I disagree, and I tell them to open their damn ears and listen to what the characters were saying so that they are so frigging confused later on, because everything that's said in the movie is said with a purpose. Not to mention, everything that's said is actually very interesting. "Whoa." Anyway, I'll be closing this review by highly recommending it to any sci-fi lover who's been crazy enough to NOT view it yet. This movie is like the 'Pulp Fiction' of... well... science fiction. ***** out of *****
