A Guide to Renovating the South Bend Lathe 9" Model A, B & C Plus Model 10k

I bought a 1937 South Bend lathe, model 9C for a great price. I am restoring it and found that most of the lathe is pretty simple to take apart and put back together. However, there are a few places that I was unaware of a special tool that is needed or about some helpful hints to make it easier to put back together. This book covered all of that. It also has pointers about repainting. There are some spots of the process that could be explained better; but heck, if you have taken on the project of restoring one of these lathes, then you must be mechanically inclined enough to figure out those areas. Overall I am happy with the book and how it has helped me.It also shows you how to maintain the lathe.The photos are high resolution and show exactly what needs to be done.The text is a large size, so people with some vision problems can read it well.This book was obviously written by people who have rebuilt several of these lathes, so the information is reliable.The same people who provide the book also sell rebuild kits, bearings, and special tools for these older lathes. I bought both the rebuild kit and the spanner screwdriver bit, both were good quality. However, I bought the spanner pin wrench right from Amazon.

Very detailed information that I hope will help me removating my much earlier South Bend lathe. My lathe was manufactured in 1911 (I guess it's a Model 1910?) and is much simpler than the 9-inch lathe covered by this book, but this book is great!

Worth every cent. I bought a South Bend 9A that needed to be torn down, cleaned and repaired in some spots. This book has very good pictures with call outs and arrows. Walks through disassembly and re-assembly step by step not just "reverse steps to assemble".

I found some very slight differences between my lathe and the book but it definately helped me avoid making any stupid mistakes/ breaking parts
