How are these sent? Dehydrated?

I received mine wet and sealed in a little plastic cup. Do NOT allow them to dehydrate, but keep them covered in whole milk. Hint: Do not do as I did. Stir gently! I stirred them too hard and destroyed their delicate flower-bud shapes. However, it did not affect their potency and ability to multiply. Start with perhaps a cup of milk and increase over time. You will be doing quarts before you believe it! Also, lemon peel improves the taste.

How long can you stay for For maintaining before it goes bad

It doesn't go bad. That you don't have to worry about. It is a fermentation process and not subject to rot. You should check the jars every few days, and when you find it thickened, pour off most of it through your mesh strainer and into a container for use by the family. That you can put in the refrigerator if you prefer your kefir cold; if not, then don't. After you have poured off most of the kefir, add more whole milk to the jar, filling it, cover it, and in a few more days you have more kefir. Try to avoid stirring up the bottom of the jar; that is where most of your kefir grains are and it is that that produces more kefir. You don't want to beat them into little pieces or you may end up needing to buy more grains. Hope this helps and happy fermenting!

How do I consume the grains please?

Put the grains in a cup of milk, wait 24 hours for them to ferment. Strain them out so you can use them again and put the kefir they made in the refrigerator.
