Good suggestions on a book that covers every possible beauty topic
I have been a fan of "In Style" magazine since its inception in the early nineties. At that time, I used to buy the magazine just to gloat over the columns by Kim Johnson-Gross and Jeff Stone and their "Chic-Simple" way of dressing and living. This book was a nice surprise, and it reminded me of the old "In Style" (nowadays the magazine has lost much of its quality content). "In Style - getting gorgeous" is a good starting point for every aspect of a woman's grooming, covering not just the obvious about makeup and skincare but going beyond that. The book incorporates several aspects of nutrition, hair, body, nail and teeth care. There is even a chapter dedicated to choosing fragrances, which instructs on the different notes of a scent, from the exuberant parfum to the airy eau de toilette, with practical advice on how to shop for them and how to make the most of a fragrance by using it with its corresponding ligne de bain. Most enlightening to me were the sections on the different cosmetic enhancements available today which do not necessarily involve plastic surgery. Whether you need Botox or Radiesse for your wrinkles, sclerotherapy or non-ablative laser for the bothersome veins that appear in the epidermis of the legs and sometimes on your face, or you want to rid yourself from ghastly body hair in very private parts, the processes are thoroughly explained along with their pros, cons, and costs (pages 24 - 27). One can also find information on the different ingredients used in cosmetics and skincare products nowadays, thus making an informed decision based on one's skin type on which products to buy. In Style's suggestions are given as well, with examples for the best brands in the market.True to any makeup book, there are several techniques on how to apply it, along with photos of famous stars who have worn them. What I very much like are the steps outlined to shape the eyebrows in order to achieve the most precise arch. The technique suggested is the most complete I have ever found so far in any book on the subject, and I would strongly recommend following it (page 57). Another excellent technique is the one described for "at home" facials on page 30. Follow it and treat yourself, and perhaps even some friends, to a nice spa retreat at home. Each chapter finishes with a question and answer section which will provide even more recommendations and dissipate further doubts on the topic at hand.I would recommend keeping this book next to your vanity or makeup area, as you will keep referring to it time and time again. I know I do.

Informative and Plentiful Beauty Book
Getting Gorgeous offers several informative tips and information. Unlike many beauty books, it touches on several topics, not just your face and makeup. The book has individual chapters on Skin Care, Makeup, Eyes, Lips, Haircare, Hair Styling, Body, Nails, Teeth, and even Fragrances. This book goes more in depth than most, and I really enjoyed it. It also has wonderful color photographs, charts, step-by-step instructions, and a question and answer session at the end of each chapter. I recommend it to people who want a book on more than just basic makeup application.

Not great
I bought this thinking it might have a few handy tricks and expected all the techniques to be shown as well as the final look. Not so.There is nothing in here that I have never seen before in a magazine. I probably by about 10 beauty magazines a year.If you have never worn make-up, it might is not good place to begin, they really don't show enough technique to be useful. If you want an all in one place book for ideas on how to wear your make up, its not terrible. Just don't expect great step by step photos.

Great book!
I love this book! I read beauty magazines monthly, two I subscribe to. This book gave me lots of tips and some product info that was helpful. There is so much information out there it gets confusing. For me this book helps streamline the information. Retinoids, AHA's, BHA's,etc. information to help decide what is right for you. I highly recommend it.

Helpful
I found this book extremely helpful. It covered everything to do with hair, make-up and skin. It tells you what tools you should use for your specific hair and skin and gives step-by-step instructions for certain hair and make-up looks. This is a great place to start for those who have no idea what they are doing, or a great way to learn more if you've already got a head start.
