"A Lie for a Lie" der Auftaktband der "All-in"-Reihe von Helena Hunting überzeugt mit Charme und einer liebevollen Geschichte in der harten Welt des Eishokeys. An sich ist die Reihe eine Spin-off Serie zur "Pucked"-Reihe, aber man muss nicht umbedingt diese Reihe (kompett) gelesen haben, um sie zu verstehen. Wir lernen Rook kennen der Teamcaptain seines Eishokey-Teams ist und einer seiner Teamkollegen den Geburtstags seines Kindes in einem Aquarium feiert. Und genau dort trifft er Lainey wieder, welche er schon einmal vor über einem Jahr getroffen hat. Danach gibt es ersteinmal einen Rückblick zu dem ersten Zusammentreffen von Rook und Lainey und wie sie zusammen nach Alaska geflogen sind und dann doch mehr Zeit verbracht haben. Wie aus Freundschaft mehr wurde und dann unvermittelt wieder Abschied genommen werden musst, wegen äußeren Umständen. Wie sie sich somit aus den Augen verloren haben, obwohl sie jeweils Gefühle für den jeweils anderen hatten und keinerlei Möglichkeit sich zu kontaktieren. Dann das unverhoffte Wiedersehen, aber so einfach ist es nicht, dort wieder weiter zumachen wo sie aufgehört haben. Rook hatte wegen seines Jobs gelogen, weil er nicht umbedingt rausposaunen wollte, dass der professioneller Eishockeyspieler ist und Jainey kann sich jetzt nicht so richtig auf eine Beziehung wieder einlassen. Gefallen hat mir, dass die Geschichte ohne viel Drama ausgekommen ist. Klar nach dem Wiedersehen hat es eine Weile gedauert, bis Lainey Rook wieder in ihr Leben gelassen hat, aber das hatte auch einen guten Grund. Zudem werden die beiden auch viel von Rooks Freunden unterstützt. Eine liebevolle Geschichte, tolle Charaktere ein sehr unterhaltsamer Leseausflug.

It's a simple romance. No drama ot at least it doesn't feel like there's any drama. A tiny conflict that gets solved quickly. An average read, not much else. It's fine but not a great story. Good book to read quickly in between heavier ones

Good story, a bit typical

This is the second series of Mrs. Hunting's that I have read at the start of the series and I am enjoying it. The other series I've read is the Shacking Up series and I loved that series. I haven't had a chance to read the Pucked series even though I know the characters from this series are in the All In series. Rook (aka RJ) is the team captain of the NHL hockey team in Chicago and when he first was in the NFL, he used his popularity to get the ice bunnies. After an incident with a crazed fan, he changed his ways and back off the bunnies. On his way to Kodiak Island, Alaska for his summer fishing getaway, something he would usually do with his father and brother but his dad passed away 2 years ago and his brother's wife had complications from her pregnancy so had to cancel at the last minute, RJ runs into a shy lady named Lainey. The 2 get along with each other and RJ realizes that Lainey doesn't know who he really is so he is glad about that since he wants her to get to know the person, not the player. They have a summer romance which ended up being more for both of them even though they never admitted their feelings to each other. When RJ gets a call from his brother saying that his sister in laws is in the hospital and having her baby soon, RJ rushes to LA from Alaska telling Lainey he will call her when he gets there. Well there was a big storm in Alaska and the power and phone lines were down so RJ and Lainey couldn't connect before Lainey had to leave Alaska. RJ thought he had lost Lainey and was sad because she didn't leave him a way to contact her. Lainey thought that RJ though their relationship was just a fling since he never contacted her. When they see each other again over a year later, at the Chicago aquarium for one of RJ's teammate's kids' birthday, they are both definitely shocked to see each other! The birthday party scene was so funny it had me laughing out loud especially when the kids see what the dophins were doing. And the male adults weren't any help in the situation. Lainey also finds out that RJ is not his real name (even though his siblings call him that) and that he isn't an alpaca farmer but a hockey player. RJ thought this was his opportunity to get back with Lainey but because of his lies, Lainey doesn't want to deal with him since she doesnt' trust him. RJ has his work cut out for him to get Lainey to forgive him and give their relationship another chance. Lainey was hurt that RJ never tried to contact her and she has a secret of her own. She figures if RJ wants to be together, he will have to know about her secret and then he can figure out if he still wants a relationship. Once RJ knows that Lainey is hiding, he is more than determine to be with her. He goes about helping her with whatever he can and she will accept and hope that by doing that, she will realize that he meant what he has said to her about wanting to be with her. This is such a great story about 2 chances and/or kismet about two people that are meant to be together and the universe has a way of getting them together but the rest is up to RJ and Lainey. RJ eventually wins Lainey and her family over and it is so great for these 2 people and the love they have for each other.
