Kato Turnout Control Switch KAT24840

This item works just fine on my small scale 4x4 railroad. Actually have 3 in use....

This is a Kato product, so it worked wonderfully.

As with all Kato products, this is very high quality. If you have more than one, they snap together to make a bank of controls. I have found them to be very reliable with Kato turnouts. They do require a Kato DC adapter if you don't have a Kato power pack.

It super easy to use and just plugs into to another one and straight into the power pack great idea. I have one complaint they stack together like sideways Lego's and pin to the side of the KATO power pack. I notice the come apart super easy. Plus if you run Atlas or other locomotives using the KATO power pack you have to crank it up pretty high. Atlas takes more juice but Atlas locomotives are fantastic. I recommend a TECH 3 power pack. What I did was out litte long threaded screws on the bottom of my row of KATO switches, drilled corresponding holes into my control pannel, then inserted the entire unit down into the drilled holes and screwed them down snug but not to tight. then one one end added the KATO DC tranformer attachment that allow it to be used by non-Kato power packs. On the other end I added a KATO accessory unit. Then I placed a steel L-bracket on one side and on on the other this really secures everything down and looks pretty nice too. I would stay away from KATO power packs they are pricey and weak. GO with the MRC power packs they are real work horses!

Well with this you can wire your turnout so you don't have to reach over to flip it manually like some sort of model railroad manually, just add a kato power pack or your own power pack with a kato AC to DC converter and done! In the past ive used some cheap bachman switches and they all kept the motor on when the switch was flipped, causing a bit of a hum, well this switch just turns on for a moment then back off. One last thing, the plastic feels very light as if it was really cheap plastic, but when you handle it a bit more, it doesnt really feel cheap...Further testing is required but i love it so far
