will this work if my exhaust vent is about 2 inches higher than my dryer exhaust (creating a slight angle)? Or does it have to line up perfectly even?

The MagVent MV-180 or MV-90 will work with a 2" to 3" offset. Just bear in mind that the dryer will have to extend out away from the wall a few inches to accommodate the turn radius in the hose alignment. Thank you for your interest.

How long is the compression hose on the dryer side of the product when fully extended?

The compression hose is 12.5 inches long when fully extended. Once fully installed, as you push your dryer back into place, the magnets self align and the hose compresses down to approximately 3 inches in length.

Accepted Answer

The correct MagVent model for your installation depends on how far your dryer's vent is from your exit vent. The MV-180 is designed for when your dryer's vent is aligned directly with the wall vent in a straight, 180 degree line. The MV-180 can tolerate an offset in vent alignment of up to 3 inches when measuring from center to center of the vents before developing a kink in the self-aligning hose. Just keep in mind that for every inch of offset, it requires an extra inch of clearance behind the dryer to accommodate the slight bend radius in the hose. With direct alignment, the MV-180 requires 4 inches of clearance. If your vents are 1 inch offset, then it requires 5 inches of clearance. With a 2 inch offset it requires 6 inches of clearance. With the maximum 3 inch offset, it requires 7 inches of clearance.

If your vent path takes a 90 degree turn, or your vents are at least 9 inches apart, then the MagVent MV-90 is the correct model for you. For a 9 inch or more offset, the MV-90 should be mounted directly behind the dryer's vent and combined with a standard 90 degree elbow. The MV-90 can also tolerate an offset of up to 3 inches before kinking the self-aligning hose. With direct alignment it requires 5 1/2 inches of clearance, and requires an extra inch of clearance for every inch of offset.

If your vents are between 3 inches and 6 inches apart, or the use of the MV-90 will require too many 90 degree turns in the vent path, then the MagVent MV-Flex is the correct model to use. It is not a self-aligning model, but it does give more leeway with your vent alignment. With the MV-Flex you provide your own length of hose and manually connect the magnets, but you still use the shortest piece of hose possible to connect the magnets once your dryer is already in position. This eliminates the typical, overly long transition hose that gets crushed and obstructed when the dryer is pushed into place.

Question 4

Does MagVent make a wall exhaust attachment less than 4”? My wall exhaust pipe is roughly 3.3/4”.

MagVents are designed to fit inside the standard 4 inch dryer vent pipe. Sometimes, but not often, the manufacturers of dryer vent pipe will slightly narrow the end section of the pipe to accommodate attaching the standard flexible vent hose around the outside of it. Despite this, it is always preferable, and dictated by code in many areas, to have the dryer vent pipe installed inside the exit vent to have the seams of the vent path pointed in the direction of the air flow. Since most dryer vent pipe is made of aluminum and is quite malleable, it is possible to widen the inside diameter enough to fit the MagVent inside. One could use something like the handle of a screwdriver, running it around the inside of the vent pipe to increase the inside diameter, and widen the opening. If that doesn’t work well enough, then one could crimp the tail end of the MagVent with a crimp tool or needle nose pliers. This should narrow the diameter of the MagVent enough to fit inside the vent pipe. It is recommended to crimp the MagVent as little as possible, that way the MagVent still has a tight fit as well as the smoothest interior vent path possible.
