Works great, but discontinued!!
This train works great! Lots of fun! My kids love it. Exactly what you expect. However, I just learned it is discontinued by Brio. So it won’t work with many of their other Smart Tech sets that require an engine. I would not have purchased it had I realized it won’t work with many sets.

Quality toy to provide creative learning for toddlers
Our little guy (2 y rs old) was able to build the tracks and make the train work. Love the integration of technology with a classic toy.

Overall Joy!!
I purchased this for my soon to be 5 year old grandson for his birthday. To say he was excited would be putting it mildly-he was thrilled! He's been into trains since he was two, but since Brio now has this Smart technology, it's so much fun watching the train move on its own. I have had Brio trains for 31 years now and they are the best.

Train play on a different level!
Brio Smart Engine Set with Action Tunnels Wooden Train (17 Piece), MultiWOW! Bought this set based on a Business Insider article. I'm not much of a fan of technology being integrated into toys but this concept sounded interesting, especially because we own several Brio railway sets already. Train and tunnels communicate with each other. Absolutely magic (at least my 4 year old thinks it is)! Depending on which tunnel is being used and where it is being placed the train stops, turns around, blinks it's lights etc. The tunnel(s) can be placed anywhere and be used with any BRIO set but the effects only work with the train engine included with this set. My 4 year old absolutely loves his new toy and is constantly trying out different tunnel combinations to see what else he can make the train do. Was looking for more accessories and found this one: Brio Smart Washing Station World Tech Railway Train Accessory (2 Piece), Multi. Nothing else like this out there. What a clever idea for such a classic!

Great Toy for Gentle Children
I bought this train set as a Christmas gift for my toddlers (3 year old twins). I personally LOVE it, and it's been a lot of fun to show the twins how to make the train stop, flash its lights and turn around. It's a 5 star toy for my daughter, who understands that she can't push the train on the track (it runs on its own) and is fairly gentle. My son is NOT gentle, and wants to grab the train and push it like a toy car, which is why I'm giving this an overall rating of 4 stars.I do love that this set will integrate with other BRIO tracks / trains - I ended up purchasing another set so that both kids could play at the same time, and so my son had a more durable train to play with. We definitely plan to add more sets over time.

Engine didn't respond, Ravensburger sent a new set.
I got the Smart Tech Engine set and separately the Washing Station for my kid, and the train will not respond to any of the accessories. The train has batteries in it, the buttons on the top of the train work. I wanted to return it, but my kid is in love with it. I just wish the train would work with the tunnels, stair platform, and washing station.*UPDATE* Went from 2 Stars to 5 Stars. Since my post, Ravensburger.com Customer Service reached out to me and asked me to send them a video of the Smart Tech engine not responding to the RDIF items. They were empathetic and apologetic, then sent me an entirely new set. Great customer service! They didn't know the first set was defective, how could they? But they took the appropriate steps to rectify the situation long after my return period was up.

great idea, but not all tunnels are communicating with the train
My 4 year old son loves his wooden train set and we through this would be a great addition since the wooden tracks are the same. Two of the tunnels work, however the bridge does not seem to be communicating with the train after only a few uses. It has worked, but very inconsistently. Attempting to contact BRIO customer services, hopefully we can rectify the situation. He has enjoyed it, but gets easily frustrated that the bridge does not work.

A new dimension of play...
This had added a whole new level of play to our Brio fun. My son loves controlling the train with the tunnels, telling it what to do in different situations, and the way the station signal also sends messages to it. Works well.
