Q: for those who have used this--- how does this compare to the plastic "pantastic" number-shaped pans? would you say this performs better?

I prefer this pan. It does need to be well lined or coated but it more durable than the plastic one. I purchased this one to replace my plastic set.

Q: Does all the batter from a box of cake mix fit into the pan?

I baked my cake from a recipe calling for 2 - 8" round pans. All of the batter fit in the pan. I would believe a standard cake mix will work perfectly. Tip: grease and flour pan generously and use parchment paper on bottom of pan to release cake effortlessly.

Q: How many batches of boxed cake mix does it hold?

I make a 9x13 cake and cut the number out. I don't bake in them. I get two number out of this pan.
