A modern Gunsmoke
I missed the debut of this series on TV, but had to good fortune to be targeted by Amazon based on my other likes for detective shows and westerns like Justified. And here is a western detective show, just for me. The lead character is Sheriff Longmire protecting the people of Abshoka County in Wyoming. There are lots of shots of driving around, and just standing around, in the beautiful American West so lovingly portayed in old John Ford movies.Robert Taylor plays the Sheriff and is very convincing as the determined, smart, dedicated Sheriff. HIs wardrobe is Western-perfect, big hat and long leather coat. He generally tilts his head so you can just see his eyes just under the brim of his hat, making him look cool, threatening, and attractive at the same time. He has just enough problems to make him modern. He drinks a little too much and pays too little attention to his job in the last year since his wife died. The other characters in the show are well drawn. The loving daughter Caty, trying to connect with her stoic dad, dating a good guy that her Dad won't like. The bumbling deputy, hired as a favor, trying to make good. The young upstart square-jawed deputy trying to take the Sheriff's position after Sheriff's Longmire's professional lapses while getting over his wife's death. And even Lou Diamond Phillips is good as the local Indian bar owner and Longmire's long-time friend. Phillips provides a window into the local Indian reservation that figures in many of the storylines. The writing of each episode here is very good. There is enough modern drama, with Mexican drug cartels and Mennonite strippers, to satisfy jaded worldly viewers. But there is also plenty of old-fashioned good story telling. You will care about the Sheriff who gets misty-eyed over a severly injured horse, and will drive five hours give the bad news to a woman who doesn't know she is a widow yet.The characters are interesting and believable. The episodes are well plotted, with each crime being self-contained into the hour long show, but containing plenty of longer term information drawing you into the character's lives. The camera work is lovely on both the large scale and the small. Plenty of the American West horizon spreading out before you, with some artistic touches like the Sheriff's tear hitting his boot while he is telling the unsuspecting widow that her husband won't be coming back from that business trip.I loved this series, and will definitely be buying the subsequent seasons. DVD is a great way to watch TV series, a whole season at a time. The only bad thing is sometimes you buy an entire season of a show you don't like (Vikings). The good news is that when it works, like Longmire and Hell On Wheels, it is just great.

Intriguing, Compelling, Entertaining & Believable Storyline,With In-depth Characters Development and Exceptional Cinematography!
Recently my cyber-friend, NyiNya a top amazon.com reviewer, introduced me to Walter Longmire, an A&E television series in its 3rd season based on author, Craig Johnson's mystery novel series that begins with "The Cold Dish."After reading "The Cold Dish," I decided to purchase the first season DVD. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the series and book have many of the same characters, but the stories are significantly different. Nevertheless, I enjoyed both the first novel and the complete first season of Longmire.Robert Taylor, stars as Absaroka County, Wyoming even keeled, former Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, common sensed and laid-back Sheriff Walt Longmire noted for his stubborn disposition with reliable instincts in this 2 disc, ten episode season while Cassidy Freeman portrays his attorney daughter, Cady who is concerned about his mental well-being following the death of her mother, Martha a year earlier.Lou Diamond Phillips plays Henry Standing Bear, Walt's oldest and most influential friend and connection to the local Northern Cheyenne Reservation, as well as the uncle of Melissa Little Bird, a victim of fetal alcohol syndrome who was raped by four local white affluent high school students who received minimal punishment for their crime. One of which was discovered murdered by an unknown assailant with a bullet from a rare Sharps .45-70 buffalo rifle.Katee Sackhoff plays Walt's choice as his heir apparent replacement; the foul-mouthed yet experienced transplanted South Philadelphia cop from a family of cops, Victoria "Vic" Moretti as a result of her husband, Glen, a field engineer working for Consolidated Coal who was transferred to work at a mine about halfway between Durrant, Wyoming and the Montana county line.Adam Bartley plays the long part-time deputy, Jim Ferguson, "The Ferg," and head of Search and Rescue.Bailey Chase plays the handsome, backstabbing wannabe Sherriff, Deputy Branch Connally, nephew of the still sharp former Sherriff who made sure Walt was his replacement, now residing in a nursing home, Lucian Connally. This addictive modern day "Big Sky" Western will keep the viewer glued to the tube for 443 minutes of stunning views, intriguing relationships and spellbinding storylines. The intriguing, compelling, entertaining and believable storyline, in-depth characters development and exceptional cinematography make this a series that addicted my wife and me to the point that we wanted to view one after the other non-stop from beginning to end.Enjoy!

Great TV series
Great series the Sheriff of a town who personal live and is working live he tries to sort out, the battle to keep the two separate is hard when the it come to the murder of his wife. The first season shows random flashback scenes detailing Walt and Henry traveling separately to Denver, Colorado, where Walt attacks someone in a meth house. Denver Police Homicide Detective Fales (Charles S. Dutton) later arrives in Wyoming to talk to Walt and Cady about her mother's death. Cady is shocked to learn her mother was murdered, as Walt had told her she died of cancer. Fales tells Walt they found the man suspected of killing his wife buried in a shallow grave. Walt denies killing him; however, Detective Fales feels that if Walt did not commit the murder, then Henry did. Original.
A découvrir, JL
