I thought "Spirit Junkie" might be a lighter read than "A Course In Miracles", I was wrong. Parts of "Spirit Junkie" made me physically uncomfortable. Where I can find poetic comfort in the abstractions of "A Course In Miracles", Ms. Bernstein's straight to the point language and real life narratives really shine light on darkness. This book evoked a spiritual awakening with a visceral after bite. It is one of the most powerful books to ever cross my path. When I discovered Gabrielle B. a few months ago I was drowning in a year long quagmire of postpartum depression. After just a few days of devouring everything I could from both her and ACIM I realized I was not depressed per se but, deep in an existential crisis. I have since stopped with great success taking my anti depressants. And though my head is not on perfectly straight just yet, I now understand the path and realize my desire to stay on course.I became interested in Gabrielle B. after reading just one quote, "If your happiness is based on external experience, then, my darling, you are expletive." I was ready and she was the teacher. I have been lost and found many times. I have digested great spiritual works. Gabrielle speaks to me. She speaks to me personally. She has known the fear. She speaks with amazing clarity and power that resonates miraculously.Gabrielle Bernstein speaks and writes in a way that does not allow you to continue being dishonest with yourself. She, herself is poignantly honest. She lays her soul bare in this book. When a soul sister can do that in front of the whole world it inspires.Without directly quoting the book or giving spoilers I have to say this is the first self actualization/spiritual read that has clarified the difference of the ego of spirit from the ego of psychology. For me, this was a massive breakthrough. Ms. Bernstein explains many things that have eluded me and kept me blocked. This book is filled with meditations, prompts for free writing, and prayers, tools for the spiritual toolbox. Incredibly valuable tools for my tool box. I can have such a frenetic way of thinking and can become overwhelmed at the drop of a hat. I am, after all a mom of a one year old and a recovering control freak. When I get lost, I go to my now beautifully equipped tool box and whip out one of these crazy awesome tools and get myself back on track.Gabrielle B. has been called to teach at a perfect time. She does it in a perfect way. She speaks our language, she has lived our experiences. She is our sister in every way. She is genuine and modern and a blessing from the cosmic being. Let's all get our miracle mindset on and when we stumble, know that there are amazing resources to help us back to our right mind.Do not be afraid of your power any longer use "Spirit Junkie" to illuminate the darkest corners of your beautiful mind.

Very different but awesome
This is the first "self help" book I have read that didn't treat you like a crazy mentally unstable person on the verge of suicide. Gabby is a little shallow BUT I dig it because she's a New Yorker and living in a very modern world. She appeals to me because I also live in a large metro city where unfortunately material things overpower the non-material and its very easy to get all caught up in it and not realize how much you have spiraled until you're addicted to something that you don't even enjoy doing. I was never into the drugs she mentions in her book but other prescriptions that are legal and easy to obtain but equally as deadly. I was "dead" inside for 2 years and she woke me back up. I was not looking for a super deep book that makes you agonize on your problems, and this book did its job. While it is definitely deep, its also kind of airy in a sense that she keeps it real. She's honest. And she takes you through her journey. Yes she glazes over the bulk of the emotions that come with the bad times and I like that because it forces you to look at things objectively. I do wish it had more substance and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. She IS coming out with a new book so maybe that will be the jackpot. When the book ended I actually remember thinking to myself "PLEASE NO, NOT YET!"Overall I felt that Gabby was like a "friend" to me and I felt like we were hanging out as I read the book. It was awesome. I consider it my Bible because she has some really great lines in there that I have highlighted and bookmarked. Those are the phrases that will keep me going for years. As humans we tend to let the negative daily aspects get us down and she is just uplifting enough to make you see the light without being overly cheesy or unrealistic about it.The negative reviews I have read are made by people who clearly don't "get" Gabby and what she went through and may be more "traditional".. I however, think this book was great. I was a negative Nancy prior to the book and now I am a happy positive girl once again.

All you need is love
A wonderful read for anyone interested in leading a more peaceful and joyous life. The reasons and answers within this book are clearly laid out for all to read. There is only one true way to happiness and love and that comes from the detachment of the ego and looking from within ourselves. Love this book and learn to love yourself!!!

Easy intro to dealing with internal conflicts
This is a fantastic book, I had reservations initially that it would be too hippie for me but its a nice easy first step guide into dealing with internal conflicts. I love that it leans on the authors real life experiences to bring it too life.

Spirit Junkie
I am quite new to these types of books. I read about Gabrielle in a magazine and I thought the way that she turned her life around was inspiring. I haven't read her previous book and I didn't feel that it was necessary in order to understand this one. Her concepts are amazing and easy to understand. Her style of writing is easy going and fun. After reading this I am definitely a spirit junkie. Looking forward to reading more of her books and have been inspired to study A Course in Miracles.

This book is awesome. It's easy to read and adds to your journey of just discovering how your ego comes up in the most insidious ways. I got to own my controlling patterns and non loving words. And have moved on with just being aware of speaking and thinking in non violent ways to everyone. Great book. Uplifting. And helps you on yr way of self discovery.
