The Jonah review
This story falls just short of classic standard but it’s still very good. The quaint but dull coastal town with its shifty inhabitants is really well written. The flashback scenes are good to. It’s a police detective story combined with horror that works well.

Great read
Tried to read this book when I was about 12 years old and didn't really get it. Finally picked it up 38 years later. Enjoyed a read from simpler times.

A Very Good Read
A great book written by a great Author,I couldnt put this one down so I would recommend it for anyone who likes horror books, and as its James Herbert its well written with good and believable characters.as only he can bring to life,I felt for that poor man,as nothing went well for him at all,it wasnt his fault but to find out why, you need to read the book first.......

Not a horror novel?
This is a detective novel not horror! The first half as standard crime novel the middle bit has excruciating sex descriptions and the end section basically reads like Herbert was writing this for a film. Nothing like his better works such as The Magic Cottage and Secrets of Crickley Hall.

Fast paced and easy to read book
I thoroughly enjoyed this early eighties offering from James Herbert. I think it's about his 5 or 6th book. A policeman haunted by bouts of vary bad luck where people always seem to get killed, and he also has a family secret too horrifying to be told. Fast paced and easy to read.Note on the Kindle version: Perfect! No proplems at all.

EDGE OF THE SEAT
This is one of his best books without a doubt. The excitement just never stops from start to finish. The last few chapters rush by in a blur leaving one short of breath. Do not want to spoil anything but the ending was a real surprise and a little unnerving. Overall, this is a fast paced exciting book that I would highly recommend.
