If you want to understand Portuguese society this is the book. This is the equivalent of a Dickens or Tolstoy. A large spread of nineteenth century life. You understand it’s difference with Spain. An exciting story, not to be put down. If you know Lisbon to Sinatra you can follow the footsteps ending in Ranholas with pastries from Belem.

I enjoyed the novel which I already knew from its Portuguese version. Fantastic translation.
