Perfect grocery store companion!
I gave this rating, because book was concise, easy to follow, and extremely informative. I especially loved the quick reference guide in the back. Will take this book with me to the grocery store, to help w/ food choices. I Also loved the introduction. Such an accurate statement that not all diabetics can eat all of the items, and to pay attention to your body. This book will will really cut down on a lot of the guess work at the grocery store! Loved that grains were kept to a minimum!!!!! The only thing I wanted to see but didn't, is perhaps a carbohydrate exchange. In other words, how many grams of sugars & carbs are in each item.... and something about portion size, would have been great too. Both should go hand-in-hand with a book like this, in my view. After all, stuffing our face to wild abandon, with some of these fantastic foods, can cause trouble also.

Much needed emergency help for me
I have not been diagnosed with diabetes but received a shot across the bow after a antibiotic shut down my kidneys. The steroid I had to take blew my sugar out of the water. The doctor told me that while this was not unheard of, I must have been on my way to type 2. He advised me to eat like a diabetic until such time as my pancreas and kidneys recovered and then we could hope insulin would not be needed. I had no clue what to eat....none....I felt that I ate fairly well already......wrong! I grabbed this book and hit the grocery store. Even though I now could return to my old eating habits, I would never consider it. I feel much better, more energy, sleep better and in the first 4 weeks I lost 11 pounds I didn't know I needed too lose and lose around 1 to 2 each week now. Thanks!

Good place to start
This book has a lot of good information but I have found that the best place to get information is from family and friends.According to recent studies over 10% of adults over 21 have diabetes and there are many more that either have not yet been diagnosed or are pre-diabetic and aren't aware.I have found over the past couple of month since being diagnosed with type 2 that many of my relatives and friends are also diabetic and they have a wealth of knowledge accumulated from experience.I think the real place to start is with professionals in the field (especially dieticians for diabetes) and spend time listening to others who have lived with diabetes. There is no better source of information, and this helps to avoid the bad information from those trying to sell cures and quick fixes.

Great for newly diagonsed diabetics
Thank you for simplifying the things that are better for diabetics to eat. We love to cook and eat 'great, wholesome food' already, it's just that we like lots of it. We now realise that the portions we eat are as important as 'what' we eat. To maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is a great reference guide for us, we eat most of the things in the book anyway, we'll just eat more of the good things and add some of the new things to our diet too. Thank you.

I have just finish reading this book. I was looking information for a list
of food and how they helped fit into a diabetics life. The book was well organized. Good choice for someone just needing information to get started, as well as ideas of what we can really eat!

Good food list, but...
Each food item that is not meat, fish or fat, should have information about glicymic load. It's important to know how much a particular carbohydrate (fruits, vegetables and grains) will raise blood sugar.

FINALLY!!!
When first diagnosed with diabetes (Type II) one of my first questions was: "What can I eat?" Most books run you all over the place educating you about the disease, blood sugar, numbers, blood glucose tests, etc., etc. and in the end still leave you wondering, "WHAT CAN I EAT?!!" This little book cuts to the chase and gets right to the heart of the matter. While it is important to educate oneself, this is the REAL information on what foods are BEST for those diagnosed with diabetes. At last, the information has been revealed! A handy list at the end of the book is just what you need to go grocery shopping.

Excellent initial guide for new diabetes 10/10
As recently diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and have been researching online with a multitude of very conflicting diabetic type websites, this little book is a extremely helpful guide as to what you can eat, make simple meals out of when you are in a rush and snack items to keep your blood sugars even and unspiked. What would also be very useful would be an addition of fats/carbs/calories/fiber/gi index key/table, underneath each different food item/paragraph. Also not forgetting portion size with the glycemix index. All in all a very interesting read and will be using the simple shopping list at the back of the book as well.Would also like to know the name of your JR doggy helper inside please? They should appear on the cover and you will get more hits/sales...

Very informative.
Having been diagnosed with diabetes last year and try ingto control it with diet I found lost of food that I should be eating. So hopefully I can hold off medication for longer if I include more of the foods in the list.

Not what I thought
I'm not sure what I expected with this book. But it turned out to be a let down. It was literally a list of things that diabetics can eat. I suppose I was expecting meals, or things I could snack on. About 30 of the items were different varieties of nut and 20 or so herbs/spices. I wouldn't bother buying it.

Diabetes
Although there are some interesting facts in this book it is only a list of items. It was cheap enough to buy so not a waste of money and the information is quite useful to carry with you on your Pad. Altogether though not what I expected from the information given.
