Works
Did not realize the foil covering had adhesive - Was easy to use. Might want to order two is you have a lot of piping.

Quick and Easy
I can't say enough good things about the design and how easy it was to work with .. It didn't take long to get the pipes ready for Mr. Winter and get back on that honey do list! I highly recommend them as the were recommended to me!

I love these, easy to install
I've been working on the crawlspace, and while I am down there I figure I can try some of these wraps out. The rolled up versions, where its like tape I did not like compared to these: these ones I literally put them around a pipe, take the paper off and it pretty much seals. It can fit in tight spaces, unlike the rolled up version of insulation; you just slide these on. The foil aids on deflecting outside cold/heat but I focused more on following the hot water line.

Use of adhesive foil makes these work better than other pipe insulation I've used
Over the years, I've insulated a number of hot water pipes. Usually the insulation is a foam rubber tube with a slit on the end; you cut to length and slip it on.These work the same, with the significant exception that these are covered with aluminum foil, with a flap that extends out from one side of the slit. The foil has an adhesive on its inner side, which is protected by a slick (waxed?) paper. Once you have the insulation in place on the pipe, you strip off the paper, and wrap the foil (reasonably) tightly past the slit and around the far side of the slit (see photos). This has several beneficial effects:1) It holds the insulation in place, even if the pipe is not exactly the same size as the inner diameter of the foam. I was using this on 1/2" nominal copper pipe, which has an OD of 5/8". I also used it on a length of 3/8" copper pipe, OD = 1/2".2) The pipe was running perpendicular to the joists in the basement. Since the distances between joists were a few inches short of the length of these insulation pieces, and the pipe was too tight up against the joists to slip the insulation between the pipe and joists, I had some short pieces of insulation left over. So I tried putting these over some of the elbows and other fittings. While I couldn't close the gap (slit) completely, the foil held the insulation in place (see photo)3) The foil reflects radiant heat. I'm not sure how important this is for covering hot water lines, but I don't suppose it hurts!Bottom line: This is easy to put on, works well on different size piping (within limits), and even over fittings and elbows. Recommended!
