Reading was one of my focus areas since she was a baby - we read together and now she is reading independently, working her way through chapter books. Though she is a voracious reader, I wanted to make sure she understood what she was reading and knew how to focus in on key reading areas such as finding the main idea, identifying supporting details, etc. all of which are important ingredients for successful reading outcomes. I chanced upon these Scholastic series of books focusing on building key reading skills and have found them to be very useful. My daughter actually enjoys working on the exercises because the passages are short and interesting! The questions are well-designed and help young children, Grades 2-3 build skills in the areas of identifying main ideas and supporting details. Another bonus - the passages comprise non-fiction selections which are engaging and informative. I recommend all the books in the series. I get her to work on a page a day (or more if she insists) but the point is to build essential reading skills that will not only make her a better reader, but a smarter and more critical one. Review: Child must have!! - I LOVE 💕 this book at 1st review. It offer details and guidance for you and your child to think critically and identify the main idea and details. I have several milk crates of books for this topic and none of them have teacher and student guidance. Not even the best books out their like flash kids Reading Skills. The other books only have you read and pick. This book makes you 🤔 think.

10 minute warm-up
Love that the stories are short with only 3 questions. Great warm-up activity to review testing strategies.

Extremely helpful.....
I ordered this book for my son who will be entering 3rd grade and was having a comprehension problem. This workbook breaks down finding the main idea and supporting details. Before this, I saw him struggling to get the main idea. After going through it, I could see his progress to clearly understanding by the time he was finished. It gave me the initial tools to help him understand and he was left to do the passages on his own. If he was taught like this in his school, I think he would not of struggled as much. The passages are interesting bits of info he enjoyed learning about. Some passages even made him go to the computer to learn more about a particular subject. Very happy with this purchase!

Helpful and Does What it Should
I'm a Special Education teacher and use this for some of my struggling readers (6th grade reading at a 1st/2nd grade reading level). I find this very helpful, especially for homework assignments to help them practice main idea. It's basically a passage with three questions, what is the main idea, what is a supporting detail from the text, and what could be an alternative title for the passage.

Very Good Teacher Resource
This book is perfect for my adult English learners. I teach level 3 in adult school, so their comprehension is OK, but needs work. The concepts taught in this book, as well as the exercises, are both very helpful. I don't have to take up the whole class teaching this, and a little dose of it at the time is terrific! There are teacher instructions on how to teach those materials, as well, which were also helpful to me. My students like it, too, which is important. The students should have interesting, relevant materials to learn from.
