It is cheap so don't expect it to be very durable. If you swing it hard it will definitely break something. The ability to change colors is pretty cool and I like that it is rechargeable as well. At this price point, those are features you don't normally see. But be forewarned, this is fairly fragile, so not good for serious battles. More for looks and effect. Overall though, a pretty good value for the price. Review: Not awe-inspiring; will not cut my opponents in half, however. - 3 stars because this is cheaply made, but then again it sells for a low price and your kid is going to break whatever they get. Treated gently this should last a good while, but you know that's not going to happen. No instructions, so it takes a while to figure out where the charging port is, which button actually turns it on, and how to release the blade. In operation it has a nice color change, makes a noise when it's swung, and a different noise when it hits something (like the younger sibling or the cat). You release the blade by pressing a latch; the blade pops out partway on its own but if you flick your wrist at the right time it extends all the way and locks into place. It's much more impressive in the dark. Not too loud but even if you find it loud it will only last until the rechargeable battery wears down and there will be peace and quiet while it charges - since it doesn't use rechargeable batteries you can't just pop a new set in. As mentioned, it won't cut anything in two, but it does scare the heck out of the dogs, at least at first. Don't want to be a downer on longevity, but I'm trying to be realistic; your kids won't pass this toy on to their kids.
