if I can use it...
I have very little technical knowledge, or requirements, so all I can tell you is....This model is very easy to start using straight away, when all you want to do is point and record. The essential buttons are in the best, easiest-to-reach place (for right-handers at least) which is not the case with all models. The clever little twiddly bits (digital effects etc) are also easy to get the hang of once you're ready. The zoom is brilliant, and it's light and comfortable to carry around. The screen is hard to see in bright sun, but that's the nature of LCD.Highly recommended, and great value for money - I love it!

trip the lights '+its not' fantastic!
I bought this camera to replace an analogue camera that to be honest had nothing wrong with it and is only 2 years old!! But being a lover of all things gadget had to have it........Dissapointed? thats not the half of it!Yes its easy to use. Yes its small, compact and stylish. Yes its lightweight but i want more! The video editing software will only work with windows XP or Mac! To get anything near a decent picture when filming inside it is advisable to point ALL available light sources, preferably attached to a generator, at your chosen subject and hope it doesn't move! Failure to complete any of the above will result in a picture quality that is comparible to watching tv in a dirty snowstorm....However outside filming provides beautiful, crisp, clear pictures which are truly awesome. The battery is a little poor providing only about 70 mins recording time on a full pack, you will get a bit more if you dont use the flip screen.........but what's the point? In summary if its a camera for shooting outdoor scenes you're after then this is fantastic, this will do you proud whenever, wherever. But dont make the mistake of taking it inside; this camera just wasn't made to be the indoors type!I require a camera that does it all, not just a bit here and there.....that is why i took this camera back to the shop and am still using my old faithful analogue. i am sure that i will find a digi-cam that does it all somewhere just not here.

not bad
I basically agree with what other reviewers are saying. This is my first video camera and we are very happy with it.But I have noticed the poor quality results you get in lower light/indoor situations. Now I make sure I get as much extra light as possible when shooting indoors by turning on the lights, and getting as much extra light in as possible through the windows.I also noticed that the image stabelizer didn't seem to be doing as good a job as I thought it would. In fact at first I thought it wasn't turned on. I would be interested to see how it compares to other brands.I think I will end up buying a wide angle lens attachment as I think it would certainly help when shooting indoors as it can be difficult to get everything in you want at the same time. The outdoor quality/in good light situations is exceptional and I guess is why the camera is rated so well.I have noticed problems in high contrast situations, such as subjects in part shade and sun but I am told this is a common problem to all camcorders so I'm not sure if other brands could do any better.Overall I am happy with the camcorder and looking forward to learning to use it more to its full potential.

CCD Issue
Exactly one year after purchasing this camera I lost all images in viewfinder or screen when taking movies yet could get an image when reviewing already recorded material. After reading forums I contacted Canon who replaced a faulty CCD because it was a known issue FOC I have had no problems since.

Canon MV600i problems
This digital video camera and similar models eg MV650s are failing in approximately 18 to 20 months. According to an independent repairer this is due to a failure with the CCD unit. Canon are not accepting responsibility. I bought on their reputation. Now that is completely shot. For more information on this problem that other people are suffering please go to [...]

It's a little Gem!
Last time I used a movie camera, it was 9.5mm. Within minutes this advanced fully featured Mini-DV Camcorder had won me over. It was so easy to understand how everything worked. For people who want a Camcorder that has the important features, but not the gimmicks, then I would suggest the MV600i My first 2 minute masterpiece was simplicity itself and the result was excellent. It can only get better.

poor video quality
Video form this camcorder suffers from poor resolution. I had bought this camcorder based on the above reviews. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known how poor the video quality would be. Its not worth recording on a CD to show to my family. They would probably laugh at me for wasting my money on this camcorder. I would probably sell it or give it away to a charity shop.
