Works a treat!
We love goats butter in our house but the stuff have a really low melting point. While that's great in winter when it's freezing cold, it's a nightmare in summer and we nearly always end up moving to the regular type during this period. This year though, even regular butter was proving hard to keep solid outside of the fridge so we thought we'd gone this a try. While it is more of a faff than a regular butter dish (and only holds about half a packet) we've been really impressed with how effective it's been. So effective that we were even able to go back to goats butter. The design is simple but looks good, and it's also very practical and well thought out - when out of the water the part holding the butter sits securely on the top of the lid, looking much like a giant egg cup. No complaints at all about this - my only comment is to ignore the filing directions as they seemed to be inaccurate. Filling just short of 2/3 full of water is the best option for us.

It’s brilliant
I loved it,, it’s protected from flies, it keeps the butter at a certain temperature,, my only complaint would be there should be a butter instrument provided as u have to mould the butter in with a spoon and your finger

A must for butter lovers
It's a great butter keeper, keeps the butter just at the right consistency, always ready to spread on your fresh bread or toast.Highly recommended. I love it, but don't have any experience in very hot weather yet.Just one thing to consider before you but - it doesn't store a lot of butter, so constant top up is needed!

Fabulous for keeping butter fresh & soft.
I was looking for a butter dish, so that I could keep butter soft & spreadable. However, I read the conventional butter dishes when left out of the fridge can cause butter to go rancid. Then I came across this - the Butter Bell & it's fabulous. Butter can now be kept out of the fridge so lovely & soft, but stays fresh & doesn't go off, because of the water inside, which keeps it fresh & cool. I can't recommend it highly enough. I only wish I'd discovered it years ago!!

Spreadable lovliness
This butter bell is an elegant solution to an age old problem.it takes half a standard block of 250 Gram butter and packs in up to the rim. Packing is easy if you allow your butter to soften a little outside of the fridge for perhaps half an hour. I place the half block of butter in the bell, and place its wrapper over the top. I then mash the butter down with the palm of my hand adding a twisting motion If the butter is still a bit hard to work. There are some caveats for the perfect butter consistency. If a room is particularly cold, especially in winter time, then the butter can harden a bit and become less spreadable. I overcome this by either keeping the bell in a warmer room , or more recently buying a softer butter like Kerry Gold. The opposite problem can be true in the summer when a very warm room makes the butter too soft. The answer here of course is to locate a cooler room or buy a harder butter. It's such a useful product and I'm very glad I purchased it.

If you like butter but find it's always too solid to use ...
If you like butter but find it's always too solid to use from the fridge then this provides a good solution. It seems a bit expensive for what it is - hence four rather than five stars. The only issue is that that of filling it with butter - something of a knack and some will find it too much of a fiddle. I usually remove butter from the fridge and 'cube' it to roughly fit the Bell. Then, after it has slightly softened, press it firmly into place with a knife. The butter keeps fine over several days in a coolish room. For convenience, only the inner Bell (rather than the whole pot) need be used at table.

Simply Brilliant!
Ridiculous I know to wax lyrical about a butter dish but this thing is brilliant. I wasn't totally convinced that it would work but the fact is that this thing is a delight in it's simplicity and function. We had moved to the spreadable stuff but on reading about seed oils we've gone back to real unadulterated butter and frankly, there's nothing like it. I was worried that the shape of the top would mean it might fall over but I have not found that to be a problem. Thank you the french for this super little invention.

Butter Belle
Bought this for my husband who doesn't like margarines or spreadable butter. It is so good for keeping real butter fresh and cool, just pop some on your bread and two or three minutes later it is ready to spread without tearing the soft bread. Remember to change the water in the crock daily. No more horrible soft slimy butter.
