Detail in Contemporary Bathroom Design

This is an oddball book. It comes across as a bit of a coffee table special, with its neat binding and high qaulity print on heavy paper. However it has a technical edge to it in that all of the 35 bathrooms include technical drawings showing elevations, some of them in quite fine detail. It's a shame that there's not a bit more added to these drawings in the way of dimensions and explanatory notes (though the dimensions that are included make it possible to scale off of the drawings anyway) to allow a greater understanding of how some of the features have been constructed.Almost all of the designs are very modern in outlook. 'Contemporary' in the title certainly is the case here. Some are stark to the point of appearing completely sterile. A few show real flair and a fine sense of proportion. But it's the added technical slant that sets this book apart from others that I have seen.There are a couple of things missing that would really make this book a must-buy (hence four stars, not five). One would be a CD with the technical drawings in something like an AutoCAD or DXF format, the other would have been some photos showing the bathrooms during construction (probably a difficult thing for the author to organise!).A worthwhile purchase if you are planning a high quality bathroom, either for yourself as a keen DIY'er or professionally for others.

I like and find this book very usefull for architects. It seems to me a good buy for the people interested in architecture

see my review of the companion kitchen detail book and substitute the word 'bathroom' for 'kitchen'.sigh - i wish more people would write reviews before i purchase books.

We decided to remodel our bathroom and though a book on contemporary bathrooms may help. The layout designs in this book are interesting and helpful enough, but to my eye the execution often ends in something quite ugly and it was surprising to see how little bathroom design has changed in the last 20 or 30 years.

Nice book, enough details. I got it for purely research reasons but still plenty to search inside. Only a bit confusing the layout but ok once you get used to it.

great book for anyone new to reading simple construction documents to get a good idea of how things work and the book also has great ideas.

Standard details with nothing groundbreaking.I wouldn't recommend this if you are looking for insider secrets to designing modernist bathrooms.There's no substance to it.
