EDIT: I think I found a solution to make them sound truly awesome. If you purchase a new laptop for example, most of the time its wrapped in a Polyester fleece bag. That fleece material is perfect for tuning those drivers. Just carefully remove the stock tuning filter, cut a fitting piece of fleece and make it stick with either a tiny bit of glue or cut a piece of double sided tape with holes equal in size to the actual tuning holes on the driver. When everything is put together, you'll get the best possible midrange and general sound out of it (in my opionion). If you have a specific measurent rig and love to experiment with tuning, its possible to get an actual neutral reference tuning out of them. Using this small recipe its possible to gradually increase the midrange and bass response. The sharpness/overemphasis at around 4-5kHz and 9kHz gets neutralized and 3-4kHz gets a bit relaxed, resulting in a more "chilled" representation. - No more aching harshness! Old: Out of the box these are indeed way too bright but this can easily be improved by uncovering one of the tuning holes. Leaving one hole completely uncovered though, results in a warm and lush sound signature. In order to get a (more) neutral tuning, consider sticking a thin sheet of nylon fabric over it. This greatly improves highs without overemphasizing them. These speakers are extremely capable of a good detail retrieval as some already mentioned - just don't use them with their stock tuning ;)

i orderd these to replace the speakers in my jvc ha-rx900 they sound greate but dont have enough range to not hit the grill mesh as the standard speakers where receased in there ousing a bit more. at lower volumes they sound way fuller/basyer. i drilled holes also in the headset and put new 3.5m audio jacks on both ear cups.
